The club world is run on a whole different set of divisions than the varsity world. The different divisions are based on the enrollment of the school, as well as if the school thinks that they would see better competition at the higher division. For example, Lakeland college, which has fewer than 15,000 students (which is the enrollment cutoff between D1 and D2 club) has fairly consistently showed themselves as one of the top teams in D2 club. They chose to play up in D1 because the competition is supposedly tougher than in D2. Carthage is D2 because they have an enrollment smaller than 15,000, and they did not feel the need to play up a division when the competition at D2 is just as good as the D1 competition. As for them being a D3 team next year, Carthage is a NCAA Division 3 member, so as their volleyball team is elevated to varsity status, they become a D3 team. Hope this all makes sense. I meant to respond to this earlier but didn't have much time so I will now...
WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING!!!! (And can I have some!!!!) ;D
Did you really say that CARTHAGE would be a better squad than Loyola?
The same Loyola that has been MIVA bridesmaid the last 3 seasons?
The same Loyola who beat Penn State and Lewis this year?
The same Loyola that can actually give out scholarship money?
Look, I appreciate your zest for a new program, but they will get MURDERED their 1st year in conferance. They will be extremely lucky to take out teams like Mercyhurst, Findlay, and Quincy. As a D3 school, they will continue to face an uphill battle vs. the other teams other than Clarke due to their D3 status.
Face it...if you are a HS Senior and are being recruited by Carthage and Loyola, assuming Loyola throws even a little cheese your way, you tell Carthage to jump off a bridge. It has nothing to do with the fact that Carthage is new or that their coach is a nice guy...it is a money issue. As long as teams like even Mercyhurst and Findlay can offer some scholarship to play, they will be way in the lead over Carthage in the recruiting game.
Throw in history of programs and Carthage has ZERO chance of finishing ahead of the Loyola's of the MIVA. (Or Lewis, OSU, IPFW, or Ball St. for that matter)
