Isn't it great that another team is coming aboard Mens VB? I wonder how Carthage becoming D3 affects the MIVA. My real question is....does Mercyhurst shift to EIVA?

Northern Africa. Or was, till the Romans destroyed it. Or is that the wrong Carthage?

Yeah, it would seem to make sense that they would join the MIVA. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
I don't know how much you know about them ... but how would you rand them in the current MIVA?

Actually, a whole new Division III conference will probably be established with schools located in the midwest. It would include Clarke, Carthage, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Palm Beach Atlantic (yes, might be a stretch for a Florida school), Ohio Northern (has not officially gone varsity) and possibly two other schools moving from club to varsity. I would think Lees-McRae, a Division II independent in North Carolina, would be an option of moving into the MIVA. The conference actually needs to guard against losing teams as its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament would be in jeopardy with fewer teams.

I don't know how much you know about them ... but how would you rand them in the current MIVA? I have only seen about 1/2 of them play at the club level only. I would rank them better than Loyola...not as good as Lewis. Coach is a great recruiter...the work-ethic guys tend to like playing for him. In the MIVA, this translates to a .500 season.

Wow! So you think they could be a top five team in the MIVA? I looked at their roster and it seemed to match up size wise to the rest of the MIVA but do really think top five? I'm not saying they aren't or wouldn't be, it would just really surprise me. If that's the case, they'd be a great addition to the conference.

In regards to Lees-McCrae they will not get into the MIVA if the MIVA coaches have anything to say about it. Coaches do not want to have to travel annually to NC, it is not economically efficient to these programs, and L-M doesn't bring enough to the table to compensate for the expenses and hassel.
On the Flip side I am very pleased to see Carthage add a varsity program, much talent comes from that area and is great that they can now be represented by a school capable of building a reputable program.
For the person who asked where it is and never got a serious answer, Wisconsin.

Has anyone seen Carthage play this year?? If so what do you think, how do you think they compare to the top teams in Division 3 like, Springfield and Juniata? I looked at their site, and they seem to be winning a lot, but against what kind of competition, and also, I noticed that they are just about all freshman, which means that if in fact they are a good team, they will be good for a few years to come still, and will only get better with experience.

well, from what i understand, carthage is one of the top D2 club teams in the nation as they are raked first, ahead of perenial powerhouse augustana. The beat clarke a couple of weeks ago, and won the clarke tournament which was made up mostly of teams that are concidering the move to d3 next year, ie carthage, ohio northern, then the current d3 teams of MSOE and Clarke. There was another team or two in the tournament too, but i don't think they were particulary interested into going d3 cause it was like U of Minnesota that was there, and i don't see them adding a men's volleyball team anytime soon. Another rumor i have heard flying around is that Lakeland, another perenial powerhouse in the club ranks is also concidering the switch to D3. There should be great movements in the next couple of years towards D3 from some of the top club teams, which will improve the quality of play in the midwest.

At the expense of sounding stupid....D2 club somehow translates to D3 varsity?

I think that part of the reason that they are D2 club is because they really don't have much of a history, and with the way the club rankings work, they go off of previous results as a big factor. But I have seen their results, and they have beaten Marquette twice who is ranked #6 in D1 club. So it looks like they have D1 club potential
