I tried not to mention this for many reasons and one of them is that I hate calling people cheaters, but I can’t put it off any more. Has anybody from MIVA noticed anything strange about how they stat IPFW’s blocks. I did. It seems that every time opposing team hits the ball into the net they stat it as a block. And how do I know this? Because announcer announces it as “Block Serdar Sicka” or “Mike Daiga with a Block.” Is it that they are blocking machines? They lead MIVA with team blocks of 4.21, and BSU is second with 2.98. This is amazing. There is such a big gap between first and second place and yet Mercyhurst follows with 2.93 and Ohio State with 2.90. I am not saying that their middle blockers are not good. They are very good blockers, but not this good. Yes, but one can say does their home stating system really help them, this much, because they also play away matches, and their stating is different. Well, there is a BIG coincidence here. Only 2 out of their 12 matches have been on the road. Now there is a big coincidence. I brought this up because I watched BSU vs. IPFW, and I noticed this phenomenon of stating blocks when the ball is hit into the net. BSU won and IPFW out blocked them 11.5 to 10.5. BSU had 18 total errors stats are telling us that IPFW blocked 11.5 of them which is 64% or errors committed by BSU. This is AMEZING, UNHEARDOF, UNPRECEDENTED and any other big word you want to use to describe this event. Nobody can out block a team and get their butts whooped 3-0. Maybe I am wrong and maybe my eyes deceived me. IPFW has 6 matches on the road and it will be interesting to see what happens.

We know the stupid announcer makes those calls to cheer up the crowd but what ONLY matters is that the statkeepers do not take those into consideration and keep their own stats. Just so you know.

I'm probably wrong about this, but don't both teams keep stats and if there was a problem, it would come out! I agree with VBFanatic, the announcer has nothing to do with the stat recording. The people keeping the stats have done it long enough that they know the difference between a ball in the middle of the net and a block.
IPFW needs an announcer that knows volleyball! Where are some of the former players, seems like there should be someone around that could do a better job.

IPFW blockers really do block a lot of balls..... I don't think the stats people are influenced. I think like midwestfan says the announcer is clueless as far as VB is concerned. IPFW IS a good blocking team though weak blocking middles, very effective blocking OHs so it's concievable that IPFW would be able to outblock BSU and still win. I will say that IPFW stats people MAY have a vested interested in counting blocks but I know them and they wouldn't blatantly do that. Border-line calls, hiowever....... I tried not to mention this for many reasons and one of them is that I hate calling people cheaters, but I can’t put it off any more. It is amazing how much better IPFW blocks at home then they do on the road.......... The only two road matches IPFW played were at Lewis and at Quincy. They had 12.5 block at Lewis in 4 games and 9 blocks at Quincy in 3 games. That equals to 21.5 blocks in just 7 games. So they block just as as good on the road as they do at home. They are a very good blocking team and block tons of balls. The announcer does not have anything to do with it so just drop this unnecessary topic already.

I'm guessing that you guys (mpsf) are going to beat up on us pretty badly ;D , just as you did to Lewis and Ball State. Bu it is going to be great experience for us. I'm sure IPFW is looking forward to the matches.

Any team can beat any team on any given night. I think it will be a great experience for all the players and it should be entertaining to all the fans. I am sure there will be many comments that will be posted once the IPFW games begin . . .

In some cases both benches are taking stats but the only ones that are used for official purposes are those done by the host's official statistician.
Depending on where the match is you can see some really "interesting" stats. Having said that I haven't heard that IPFW was one of those places.

IPFW's stat people must be working overtime on the road! ;D
They once again outblocked BS in tonights match (3-25), 14.5 to 8.5 and still lost the match. Go figure!
But ... thanks to our cheating stat people, we will be able to maintain our seat at the top of the blocking chain. ;D
