Too bad. After all that hard work and the high expectations she must have had for herself and her team, it must be devastating for her to be unable to play. Good luck and heal soon.

She has not used a red-shirt season, so you would assume so. It is definately early enough in the season to allow that.

It is a blow to the Longhorn depth, but they still have Todd and Armstrong in the middle with Paolini as a backup. That is still a tough MB combo.

Don't waste your tears. Texas will be more than OK. Beat UW without both starting MBs, three freshmen and a line up they probably never had in practice. Remember Texas hosts a regional. Best of luck to Brandy in her recovery. Now I get to see them beat Pepperdine in LA. Longhorn Volleyball tour part 2.

Based on the way she was initially clutching her knee....I'm not at all surprised. Hopefully she'll recover quickly.
Does anybody know about the health of Todd?
Even without Magee, Texas is still a top 5 team...after all, they did beat the defending champs without Todd AND Magee.
Any lineup that has Engle, Hooker, Armstrong, Todd, Moriarity and Acevado is still a championship contender.

That's awful news. After seeing their win over Washington without her, I felt like her return by mid-season would put them in strong title contention, and I'm sure she wanted very much to finish her senior year that way.
It could go either way, but I think she's a little more likely to simply retire than take a redshirt year.
Red-shirting your senior year, coming back from ACL surgery under-trained and under-practiced compared to the other girls who've now caught up with your advantage in experience, having to fight your way back up the depth chart, and just hanging around without any particular reason to be on campus or even in town (remember Brandy is from California).....
Whatever she decides, best of luck to her. She was a Fab 50, but didn't get the same kind of hype the obsessive VT/PrepVB echo chamber sometimes showers on certain players. Yet she has been an outstanding performer and leader for the Longhorns, starting all four years and amassing a record equal to or better than some recruits ranked above her. She lead the team in hitting percentage and blocks as a freshman, even after the tragic distraction of her father's death early in the season. Her father played college and Euro pro basketball, she changed her jersey to his number, 44, to honor his life.
She is a strong and very well-balanced young woman who will do well wherever she goes in life.

That is too bad; it is awful when players get hurt and doubly bad when it is seniors. I hope to never see another injury like that after seeing two in the last two seasons, in nearly the same place on the court. I expect that she will be back. After all, Texas is going to be good for a while. They will miss Acevedo, but I think they'll be in the mix again next year. If I were Texas, I would love to have her back.
I think Texas really needs Todd to come back healthy to reach their full potential. They were able to beat Washington without her, which speaks well of them, but I think having Paolini there is a dropoff. She will probably improve with more practice there, but she doesn't have the quickness that Todd has and probably won't be able to run the slides that have been so effective for the Longhorns as well as Armstrong, Magee, Todd, and previously Howden did. Still, they have a lot of talent and will still be national title contenders. Without the injuries, I would have considered them the favorites after what I saw last weekend. I think they would have beaten the Huskies in four, no insult to Washington, who played a good match and are a talented team themselves.

Hmmm so they beat UW with Paolini in there but it's a drop off? I can't think of any other team pulling out a win with two starting MB's out and three freshmen on the floor. Not to mention one of the freshmen having a not so great hitting performance. If that's the case then Texas has nothing to worry about. I'll take that win any day!!! Todd will be back soon enough; Paolini will more than hold her own. Next topic.....

There is no question there is a dropoff with Paolini in... versus McGee! Given the choice, you can bet Jerritt would go with the latter, who is a senior all-american at the MB spot ... whereas Paolini is a sophomore and playing out of position (wasn't she an outside hitter all last year?).
Not to take away from Paolini, b/c she certainly held her own when put on the spot. But also credit the players around her when the injuries robbed them of two starting MBs.
But the point has been made - that Texas won despite all that went wrong last weekend. That's the scary part, b/c Paolini will get comfortable there. Todd will return. And the freshman will get better. I can't even imagine the kinda damage that Hooker will have done once her career at Texas is over.

Is there anything odd/unusual about this area on the court? Was it an elevated floor's edge by chance? Those should be illegal.

It is a blow, and we all feel for Brandy, who has had her share of obstacles to overcome while at Texas.
I can see her coming back next season, especially if she needs an extra semester to graduate; or, perhaps she might take graduate courses, if applicable. Tough to pass on free education.
The key to Texas' season now has to be the health of All American MB Leticia Armstrong. She has been nicked up since last season, and although she looked incredible in Madison, I have to imagine her health played a reason in why she didn't start the match on Friday.
Paolini was a MB in high school. The main reason she played OH at Texas as a freshman was because of the depth we had at MB last season (Armstrong, Magee, Todd), and the unproven depth we had at OH.
I don't know all the intangibles that go into determining if a player is better suited for MB or OH, but Texas' outsides definitely have the height to play MB; so, perhaps Hooker, Christian, etc. will get some playing time in the middle, depending on the health of Todd and Armstrong. I would love to see Destinee run the slide!
Have to feel for Brandy not having the opportunity to play in Malibu this weekend; bet she and her friends and family have been looking forward to that for a long time.
