The scores were 30-19, 30-25, 30-16 (I think). I wrote the scores down but left the sheet in my car, but there's no way I'm going outside with a thunderstorm right now.
Cal took a little time to adjust. I don't know if it was jet lag or what, but they weren't hitting it crisply. I'd say Xavier was easily overmatched. Their coach was quite animated, working the up ref over what he thought were missed double calls against Cal. Eventually the ref seemed to let all the close calls go, and even one where he looked over at me and smiled a bit when I was yelling that Xavier got away with bloody murder. It was one where the ball literally went from one hand to the next.
Pictures to follow.

I also noticed that the FIU PA announcer was just butchering Hana Cutura's name. The FIU coach (who is Serbian) was there to correct his pronouciation. He got a little bit closer, but seemed to still slightly mess it up each time. I might have driven by TSB today. I saw a whole bunch of government employees taking all sorts of readings and measurements when I drove to/from Royal Palm and the Pa-hay-okee Overlook. And only one mosquito bite, although I saw it coming right when it landed on my shirt sleeve. The stupid thing bit me right through the fabric where I hadn't sprayed any bug repellent. Well - I squished it, and a ranger sort of described it as helping out the ecosystem by providing food to some other plant, animal, or microorganism. This wasn't you, was it? Maybe just a friend of yours?

geez, Cal keeps playing in front of all these packed houses, how do they handle it? Nice pics as always. Well - it's more than 3000 miles from Berkeley. There were maybe 4 Xavier supporters and 7 Cal supporters (including myself). Let's just call those other six the "Carter Family". The entire crowd was sitting on the side I was taking pictures from, except for maybe the FIU team on the other side. Oh - and thanks - I think.

The campus was totally closed Tuesday and Wednesday due to weather/hurricane forecasts. When you logged on, main campus website switched you immediately to a 911.FIU website.
The word on the full campus website was go home, stay home, don't come back till we get the all clear.
I am sure there are few students around and no one was gong to make the effort for a non FIU match. Don't even know if they would have been in classes if no bad weather. Maybe semester has not started yet. Lotsa campuses don't till 3rd week of Sept.
Maybe there will be a few more when Cal plays FIU Sat, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.... Labor Day weekend ? maybe classes not in session? very recent weather issues?

The campus definitely reopened on Thursday, and it certainly looked like business as usual. It's just nobody showed up for this one except families of the players. Some of the arena (student) staff were enjoying the show. I think one of them knew about Angie Pressey. I didn't stick around for Oral Roberts vs FIU.
The storm was really weak passing through South Florida. I've been in worse storms in California. The thing was all the businesses were pissed that such a weak storm reduced their customer base for a week or so as people cancelled their vacations.
