a great win for one of those "mid-level" teams that have been winning their conference but have yet to pull off a win over a nationally ranked team. Dayton has a great middle in Faye Barhorst. it looks like AZ will be struggling to replace all that firepower lost from last year... could be a long PAC-10 season for them. daytonflyers.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/recaps/090206aaa.htmlLOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dayton dominated nearly every statistical category to shock #18 Arizona, 3-0 (30-27, 30-17, 30-23) on Saturday morning at the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic. The win was the highest ranked team ever defeated by the Flyers in school history. Dayton (4-1) closes out play Saturday against Tennessee Tech at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Flyers used a solid defense combined with a diverse offensive attack to shut down the nationally-ranked Wildcats. UD out hit UA .232 to .024 and collected 61 digs to Arizona's 47. Three Dayton players reached had 10 kills or more and hit over .275 in the match. Nicole Bateman continued her streak of double-doubles by recording her third straight with 11 kills and 13 digs. Senior Faye Barhorst and redshirt freshman Chauntay Mickens finished with 10 kills each. The duo was fed by redshirt sophomore setter Erin Schroeder's 37 assists. Schroeder also added nine digs and six kills. Junior libero Adrienne Green tallied a match-high 19 digs as the Flyer defense allowed just one Wildcat to record double-digits in kills. UD used a late rally to take game one, 30-27. After trailing 12-18, the Flyers went on an 8-2 run sparked by a kill from Schroeder. Five Arizona attack error, one Dayton block and a kill by Barhorst knotted the score at 20-20. Then with the score 23-all, UD took the next two points on a service error and a kills by Mickens for a 25-23 advantage. The Flyers made the lead stand from there to take a 1-0 advantage in the match. Dayton dominated in game two in a 30-17 rout. UD out hit UA .394 to .000 in the second game and ripped off kills on five of the last six points in the game to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Arizona rebounded in a third game that saw seven tie scores. However, with the score knotted at 11-all, Dayton took advantage of a Wildcat service error for it first lead of the game. A Bateman service ace coupled with kills by Mickens and Schroeder built a 15-12 Flyer lead and UD never looked back in closing out the match with a 30-23 victory in game three

I'd post my sarcastic comment about the Pac10's alleged dominance, but right now I can't be arsed to do it.
