"Parody" could work for some teams play thus far this season.

With the parody in the vb field this year I believe the Gophers will pull it all together by the end of the season and be a force to be reckoned with in the NCAA tourney. I'll go out on a limb to predict that they either win the Big 10 or come in 2nd. This weekend had to be difficult for the players as much as the fans not having their lineup set with the absence of KBow and Marci. I just know as a Booster that I really would like to hear a full explanation as to the basis of these suspensions. You're really "out on a limb". Move really slowly, or you might crack it, and then you'd be in for a nasty fall......

This is a similar start to 2004 --- however, no Cassie this time to lead the team...

My last post on the topic, unless new info becomes available: 1) bomber's feeling good, I see. The Badgers beat up on some mediocre teams. Woo-hoo. I'll remember her good words. 2) Other difference -- major difference -- from 2003 (I assume you meant 2003) is that Paula's not out there passing. But it reminds me of a lot of years, unfortunately. Seems like it's always something. 3) I am very disappointed in all the deuce game losses this weekend. It's a bad trend, especially given how shaky this team was in game 5s last year. You worry that a lot of confidence has just been thrown out the window, at least partly because they didn't have their full team there. Will the return of KBow and Peniata restore/build that confidence? It may not. 4) Reports from people who were there say the Gophers looked worse as the weekend went on. THAT is really bad news. Anyhow. I have better things to do (I guess) than stew about this. Ciao.

Mediocre teams are great. You tend to look a lot better when you play them. Seriously, though, I am wondering why Minnesota didn't schedule a couple more winnable matches early. I realize tournaments are whomever is in them, but I would have tried to get a match with someone, anyone that looked winnable last weekend or in the middle of a week early. That way, you get get your jitters out of the way and work on finding a lineup before you go against so many good teams in a row. I realize the suspensions hurt them a lot, but that start to the season would be tough for any team. It is really a schedule for an experienced team, which Minnesota isn't, really, even with KBow and Peniata (and I will say again that the NCAA is stupid). Having Bowman back next weekend should help, but that is looking scary.

I had forgotten this: Chelsea Meierotto is playing for Jim Boos at UMD. See, bomber? Just shows you that we all can get along if we try.

I imagine they scheduled the non-conference matches expecting both Kelly and Marci to be playing and were attempting to guage how the team would do against some tougher competition instead of scheduling predominantly cupcakes. Such is life...

But my hide has been "tenderized" so much on this forum that I've become somewhat "BiK like". And when I see a comment like I saw on this thread from some ridiculously enthusiastic homer, that Minny will win the Big Ten, it's just hard for me to let that pass......

Actually, there are some who would call TAMU at this point mediocre as well. They have only 4 upperclassman on the team, and eight frosh. I'm a Big Ten fan when everything is said and done, and I would have expected a better showing from Minnesota. With or without their two passers.

Homer or not, I still say there's reason for optimism. Assuming the NCAA ever lets this team actually play together, there is a lot of good stuff happening there, and I don't think jham is crazy. If we want to obsess over the To 16/25, there are plenty of Big Ten matches that can have an impact on that -- given how many B10 teams are ranked (deserving or not).

I would have thought MN would at Minimum split vs TA and LSU. Going to be tough to get a win next weekend. They need to be focused on the conference, a top 3-4 finish in the Big Ten gets a decent NCAA seed. It does look like like Mich and Mich ST are improved, going to be a very tough year in the Big Ten, lots of real good teams, no great one's.
