I'm glad I didnt stay in Lincoln for this game. Driving back to KC would have been sad. FYI- those Big Red Dogs are gross! Nice tourney for the Huskers. You talking about our World Famous Fairbury Brand Hotdogs? Yeah they aren't that great, but then I don't like hot dogs in general anyway.

All things considered not a bad showing for the ladies from the Beach.....lots of work to do but at least they know what it will take to beat a #1 team.....speaking of #1, Nebraska is my #1 and UCLA(prividing they beat Hawaii today, and they will) is my #2 team for this weeks poll.......WITHOUT A DOUBT!

If my math is correct Nebraska out scored Long Beach St 15-5 to win the third game. (down 20-15)
NU also outdigs a California team 59-38. Woo hoo!

Almost every one of the Huskers put up good numbers today. 4 hitting above .400, and Rachel Holloway continues to impress with 52 assists and 11 digs.

Come on out to our house next year and we'll see how the game goes Unless there is some vast improvement, which I'm not saying there won't be on LBSU's part, I'm not too concerned. (do we even play?) We will have Houghteling, Pavan, Larson, Stalls, and Holloway, plus a great recruit from Arizona. Schwartz should be able to step into the libero position again, and I understand we recruited a decent libero from Iowa.

Come on out to our house next year and we'll see how the game goes Just listening to Cook's post match comments. A few interesting observations: He said it was very difficult to get Long Beach to come here after we went out there in 2001. Also said Middle Tennesse St. has asked to come back already. Cal Poly very much wanted to play in this tourney this year because "to be the best we need to play the best"- Cal Poly coach. Yes, admittedly it is another sports cliche. Also, the Husker volleyball players usually stay around after home matches to sign autographs. Both Baylor and Cook noticed that everyone was trying to get Houghteling's autograph and right next to her was standing one of our star running backs, Cody Glen. "he's trying to find someone to talk to" Apparently no one was really paying attention. In a state still obsessed with football, its just another example of how big volleyball is in our particular neck of the woods.

Some interesting info for you Nebraska fans that John Cook, for obvious reasons omitted.....this was supposed to be a "Showcase Tournament" and originally there were at least two other HIGHLY RANKED teams who were coming, both to replace St. Marys and MIddle Tennessee....Long Beach accepted this invitation TWO YEARS AGO.....somewhere between the time that Long Beach accepted the invitation and Nebraska made it to the Finals, the other two teams BAILED OUT on this tournament.....some of you Nebraska folks might want to ask John who they were....I know who they were by the way.....this could have been a really great tournament but things change.....I am sure that LBS would return to Nebraska if we could be a home and away with you guys.....we owed this one to Cook by the way!

I know USC was one of them that bailed out of a Husker Tourney after they had agreed. I also know that Cook tried to get Stanford, Hawaii, Penn State, Washington and Florida and they would be playing at the Qwest to help prepare for the Final Four. I don't know if any actually accepted and later backed out though.

Hawai'i has its own Tournaments in early September. If I'm not mistaken, this is the 18th season that Hawai'i has hosted the HAL Wahine Volleyball Classic. Nebraska's tournaments conflict with Hawaii's tournaments. The Wahine can't be in 2 places at the same time.

Penn State could be #2, but probably #3....I don't think that U$C is top 5, but Santa Clara may be but I would like to see more of both of those teams.....U$C all but dodged everyone in their pre-season schedule....look at it, it's a joke....based on strength of schedule I have to put a number of schools well ahead of them, including Florida, Texas, UCLA, of course Nebraska, and perhaps several others,,,,,heck Cal Poly is playing a far more difficult schedule and based on how they have done, I would have them ahead of Mick's ladies!

It takes a special effort from somebody for the Nebraska crowd to react negatively towards someone. Gimmilaro has that special quality. Based on what I saw today, I would classify him as a 1st class A$$. He deserved to be carded at least twice and I was shocked that the up official showed so much patience and restraint in that regard.
