It takes a special effort from somebody for the Nebraska crowd to react negatively towards someone. Gimmilaro has that special quality. And Nebraska fans give Hawaii fans a hard time for booing LBSU in the '00 regionals.

Just listening to Cook's post match comments. A few interesting observations: He said it was very difficult to get Long Beach to come here after we went out there in 2001. Also said Middle Tennesse St. has asked to come back already. Cal Poly very much wanted to play in this tourney this year because "to be the best we need to play the best"- Cal Poly coach. Yes, admittedly it is another sports cliche. . Some interesting info for you Nebraska fans that John Cook, for obvious reasons omitted.....this was supposed to be a "Showcase Tournament" and originally there were at least two other HIGHLY RANKED teams who were coming, both to replace St. Marys and MIddle Tennessee....Long Beach accepted this invitation TWO YEARS AGO.....somewhere between the time that Long Beach accepted the invitation and Nebraska made it to the Finals, the other two teams BAILED OUT on this tournament.....some of you Nebraska folks might want to ask John who they were....I know who they were by the way.....this could have been a really great tournament but things change.....I am sure that LBS would return to Nebraska if we could be a home and away with you guys.....we owed this one to Cook by the way! I think I know who one of the teams were. But you are right, and I thought he did mention it once in one of his volleyball shows last year. In all of the coaches defense, it is hard to schedule. Contrary to what many people think, most schedules don't evolve over one season. So Beachman, curiosity is killing me...who were the two teams?

Wasn't Hawaii... who could blame Florida for coming to Hawaii instead of Lincoln? Stanford maybe, but at this point, they'd rather have a loss to Nebraska than BY-who.

Hawai'i has its own Tournaments in early September. If I'm not mistaken, this is the 18th season that Hawai'i has hosted the HAL Wahine Volleyball Classic. Nebraska's tournaments conflict with Hawaii's tournaments. The Wahine can't be in 2 places at the same time. I am sure he probably asked Hawaii, but given the above circumstances: 1. Hawaii would have never accepted, so therefore couldn't back out 2. John Cook, contrary to what people think about him is an understanding guy, and given the quality of Hawaii's own tourneys wouldn't have pushed it too hard.

Based on what I saw today, I would classify him as a 1st class A$$. He deserved to be carded at least twice and I was shocked that the up official showed so much patience and restraint in that regard. You may be right but I thought he was just stalling and trying to "ice" Larson on her serves. I think he was out of timeouts at the time and didn't have a towel handy for wiping the floor to help kill time.

I know USC was one of them that bailed out of a Husker Tourney after they had agreed. I also know that Cook tried to get Stanford, Hawaii, Penn State, Washington and Florida and they would be playing at the Qwest to help prepare for the Final Four. I don't know if any actually accepted and later backed out though. The teams that originally accepted invitations to next weekend's Players Challenge were: Long Beach State, Southern California and Minnesota. Concerning USC, Stanford, Hawaii ...etc. declining an invitation to play at the Qwest Center - They were not invited to play in an early season tournament. They were invited to play in a mid season Monday night match at the Qwest Center on national TV. ESPN and CSTV both expressed a lot of interest. Nebraska offered to pay all of the expenses. For one reason or another they all declined.

I believe in either 2003 or 2004, there was already talk about Florida coming to the Hawaiian Airline Classic for the 2006 tournament. Too bad Nebraska couldn't get anyone for their mid-season match. The problem is that scheduling non-conference matches in the middle of the conference season is tough to do. I recall Shoji talking about the possibility of playing Nebraska last year if they didn't get the AVCA Showcase invite. Don't know about this year. Looking at the schedule, Hawaii's best option would have been for the match in October after traveling to Louisiana and New Mexico for conference matches however they have non-conference matches with Norte Dame right after that.

I can't recall the first point he was arguing, but the second time, he was agruing a "no touch" call which I figured he was trying to either kill a bit of time or find something to pump up his team a bit. At the time, there was a bit of noise from the crowd directed at him but not really a big deal. Then the next volley did have a touch and when it was called by the line judge near his bench, Brian, who was standing near the court maybe 20 feet in front of the line judge, started some extended & emphatic clapping looking at, facing and walking toward that line judge in what I would call a mocking manner. That's the only time the crowd really got on him. I was surprised he didn't get a card on that stunt.

I was told by some of our fans who were in attendance that one of the calls that he argued was an OBVIOUS NET by one of the Nebraska players that happened right in front of the Net Judge I believe who "didn't see nothin"!

This is the first time that I have seen Alexis Crimes. Maybe I'm missing something, but she is highly overrated. The best thing that she does is jump. I couldn't believe that she was on the all-tournament team for this tournament. She basically did nothing. Her attacking is sub-standard and her blocking is average. What a disappointment.
This is also the first time that I have seen Gamarillo. Is he always as classless as he showed in Lincoln or was he having a bad day? If he spent as much energy teaching his kids how to play as he did barking at officials he may find that his team will actually perform at a higher level.

He is known for this kind of behavior on the sidelines. I tend to find it real funny though, because he only acts this way when your team is beating his. But about teaching his kids .. well, that comment has little weight. He has trained some fantastic raw athletes into some of the USA's best volleyball players .... and this comes from a Wahine fan.

So if you have had the opportunity to coach raw talent into the USA's best talent then that excuses any kind of behaviour you may exhibit??? That makes acting like an ass OK?? I would like to think there are a few coaches left iwho can also teach their players how to win and LOOSE gracefully.
