It's hard to be critical of Jimmy Mac, but that pre-conference schedule is an absolute joke
Davidson, Morehead st, Liberty, Portland, umbc,NDSU, Gonzaga, Fresno and UC Davis. How does that schedule make a team better or prepare them for conference. If they hadn't been invited to the NACWAA and had two good matches there, it would be the worst pre-conference schedule of a major program since Georgetown basketball in the late 80's early 90's. I hardly think this is something Sean Penn would approve of.

They had a weaker schedule last year(minus two road matches at Hawaii) and look what happened.
In the preseason, McLaughlin's strategy is to focus on the internal, on their own side of the net. In this regard it is better to play weaker opponents as they don't really prepare for their opponents at all, unlike the pac10 season when the specifically prepare for that week's matches.

Plus Jim knew we were losing/had lost (not sure when the tournaments were scheduled) six/seven seniors (Kaitlin Leck was an academic Senior, but a volleyball redshirt junior, who decided to graduate on time). Jim treats the pre-seaon like a series of scrimmages against other teams with the focus almost entirely internal, not on the opponents.
We start the season with the other four of the top five teams in the PAC-10, so the scehdule will get tough enough very soon.

I also have a feeling Jim schedule the Davidson tournament when he was recruiting Megan Hodge. You know, one of the "you can play in front of your family right when you get here!" jobs.

Washington gets a tough enough schedule during the PAC 10 season. I like what he does in building confidence from the start. The interesting thing is that he has the team play and doesn't appear to play around with the line up like so many other coaches do when playing weaker opponents. They get the chance to really work on consistency and team unity.

Again, its hard to argue with the success they have had, but not sure how good it is for our sport, (lack of marquee matches to generate interest) and definately not for their fans. Also, their are alot of teams that would allow them to do what it is you're saying, not sure you have to go that low down the totem poll.

Well whatever, it's not my place to question Jim McLaughlin considering he knows what he's doing. So I'll stay quiet about it.
The Huskies are playing UMBC right now that you can view for free on gohuskies.com. UW took game 1 -13.

I thought he doesn't like to play around with the lineup like so many other coaches when he plays weaker teams?

Looks like he's trying a variation on the rotation. Deesing served -- was that for the first time this year? Normally Miyashiro serves for her.

Simmons(NAIA transfer) set g2 as well and the hitting percentage dropped accordingly, though she did pretty well. still huskies take g2 -19.
