McGinnis vs. McGinnis
UF plays Illinois State on Saturday and Angie will face little sis Mary, an OH for the Redbirds. That should be fun for those 2. I guess.
Kari Klinkenborg has been cleared to begin practicing in a limited manner, 20 jumps/practice. Great news. I can't wait to see her on the court soon. The team seems to be getting healthy and hopefully they stay that way. I expect Janine Williams to play quite a bit this weekend as well. Of course, some of the players got sick after their travel to Hawaii. Nothing major, just happens with jetlag and fatigue.

Imagine having to make the trip 2-times in 3-days with a 100-degree temperature difference, gator, and you'll understand our upsettedness in 2004 over the Rainbows not hosting the 1st & 2nd rounds.
Eager to see Klink return to the court and how that affects the Gator's play.

Well, even if you don't believe me, I actually think that she's really fun to watch. Quick feet, and a nice armswing.

Gators swept UCF, -19, -21, -16. It was a lackluster performance, really. Douglas played well, McCray had a solid night, Bowers did too. KJ looked good off the bench. Hampton was off, she and Kisya and McGinnis looked kinda out of it. They still hit .340 and held UCF to .009, but they just weren't sharp. Oh yeah, Cusack continues to impress with her defense and passing(18 digs, 0 receive errors). Too many damn serving errors, 13 and too many aces by UCF, 5.
The earlier match saw Illinois State come back from 0-2 down to keep FAMU winless.

McGinnis sisters face off in O-Dome
By BRANDON ZIMMERMAN Sun sports writer
When Pat and Dawn McGinnis walk into the O'Connell Center this afternoon, they will undoubtedly be the proudest parents in the building.
On one side of the court will be Mary McGinnis, a freshman outside hitter for Illinois State. On the other will be Angie McGinnis, a junior setter for Florida.
These two McGinnis sisters grew up playing volleyball together in their backyard in Fraser, Mich.
Today they will go against each other in front of several thousand people in the O-Dome when Illinois State faces No. 6 Florida at 3 p.m. in the final match of the Campus USA Invitational.
It promises to be a fun afternoon for the McGinnis sisters. But a hair-raising one for the dozen or so members of the McGinnis family who will be in attendance.
"I'm not sure if I'm going to enjoy it," Dawn McGinnis said with a laugh. "Someone is going to lose. But someone is also going to be very happy."
Both were happy on the opening night of the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational Friday.
Mary McGinnis contributed five kills and nine digs off the bench as ISU (4-4) came back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Florida A&M 3-2 (30-32, 21-30, 30-25, 30-23, 15-5).
Florida (5-1), meanwhile, got 35 assists from McGinnis and defeated UCF 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-16) as a crowd of 3,022 looked on.
Angie McGinnis, who was honored before Friday's match for recently passing 3,000 career assists, said she is looking forward to today.
"It's going to be fun," she said. "We always used to play together in the backyard, so it won't be much different."
Except this time there will be several thousand people watching. Among them will be the McGinnis family, who made airbrushed T-shirts for today's match which feature Redbirds and Gators logos along with the names of Angie and Mary.
"They're pretty awesome," Angie McGinnis said.
Dawn McGinnis was in much the same spirit Friday night. She wore a Redbirds T-shirt and waved both ISU and Florida flags.
Florida coach Mary Wise, meanwhile, said she has given her All-American setter a little advice for today.
"We did talk to Angie and let her know that this match isn't Angie versus Mary," Wise said. "It's Florida versus Illinois State.
"But knowing the McGinnis family, they (Angie and Mary) may see it differently."
Wise, who often schedules road matches in the hometowns of her out-of-state players, has a special trip in store for McGinnis next year. Instead of playing in Michigan, the Gators will play at Illinois State.
"That will be Angie's homecoming," Wise said.

The team was off because they just lost a day of their lives in that horrible flight from Hawaii and many were not feeling at the top of their game. I don't know how the Hawaiians do it. It really is a disadvantage when you have to travel east from Hawaii. The lack of sleep and time zone changes really affect your biorythms.

Yeah, going from West to East is so much worse than East to West. The trip there isn't so bad. Coming back it's just awful.

I agree. That is why Hawai'i fans get pissed off when the Wahine get sent to play first and second round matches on the Contus (Continental US). Just one note though..... only those with "Hawaiian" blood should be referred to as Hawaiian.

Just one note though..... only those with "Hawaiian" blood should be referred to as Hawaiian. So what do you call the other 80% of those residing on islands? Islanders or whatever their ethnicities dictate. Hawaiians are descendents of the fist Polynesians to have inhabited these Islands. Only those who have Hawaiian blood can be Hawaiian. For example, can a person with no Japanese ancestry be considered Japanese just because they reside in Japan? Sorry Gators fans, I don't want to hijack your thread...just clear up a minor discrepancy.
