What is wrong with Northwestern this year. I saw they lost to Western Michigan last Saturday. I really thought this was the year Northwestern might have a shot at an upper division finish in the Big Ten. I know coach Chan was very optimistic about his team this year thinking and it may still be his best team ever at Northwestern.

Listening to the match was painful - when will Stanford get some passing. How can they not realize that any form of half way decent passing will give them more success offensively. I'll bet that Richards struggles because there isn't any passing when she is front row. Heard the announcer say several times that the pass from the libero had to be bump set....that's a problem for an outside hitter especially if your running a 5-1. Leaves very few options.

Actually, I thought Stanford's passing was okay most of the time; Barboza and Richards, especially, are good both offensively and defensely. However, the team falls into streaks of bad passes, errors, and miscommunications. All teams have such streaks but great teams minimize them usually by having "terminators" who can side out. Like Hawaii, Stanford has a long season ahead and a lots of matches to get their act together. They have "mucho" talent to do it.

Shoulda coulda woulda... they should be the "Stanford" in the midwest with that location and that academic institution behind them. But if you're not training your players (particularly in ball control), you're not going to ever reach your maximum potential.
