Apparently the two Noon matches this week at the Golden Bear Classic at Haas Pavilion will be free to enter. It will be Cal against American along with Pepperdine vs Colorado State. Friday's two matches and Saturday's evening matches starting at 4:30 PM will require paid admission.
However - my season ticket package still came with a ticket for this Sat at Noon. Oh well.

I remember going to that Golden Bear Classic back in the mid-eighties, during the day, and being practically by myself in the stands in Harmon Gym. About halfway through one of Cal's matches, about 5 or 6 members of the Straw Hat Band showed up. They positioned themselves in the far upper reaches of the gym, 1 or 2 kids in each corner. Then, they proceeded to do a "wave", which was still new at that time. It was really cool, as they had the timing down pat. One of them would rise and "Wave", then 7 or 8 seconds would pass as they waited for the imaginery crowd to participate, then another one of them, in the next far upper corner of the gym, would rise and continue it. Action stopped on the court and they got a "Standing O" from the players of both teams.

I never saw volleyball at Harmon Gym, even while I was a student. Back when I was a student, I preferred men's basketball. My first experience with Cal VB was when they played at the Recreational Sports Facility Fieldhouse. It felt like a HS gym. It was also interesting walking past the pickup basketball/VB games. I remember when Cal played Florida in 2000, when there was supposedly a recruit in attendance that both Cal and Florida were looking at. Some Euro kid named Mia(?).
