Glass seems like a strong competitor, but I wouldn't rave about her setting at this point. Her location needs a lot of work still and she did chuck a few in last night's match. Past freshman setters like Thompson, Kehoe, and Bremner looked sooooooo much better than Glass. Maybe some day she'll be great. Personally, I'm thinking Carico is the strongest setter contender for FOY.

Batis has been overated for several years now. I'll throw in Taylor Barnes' name 9-1 so far and MVP of 2 tournaments. Big impact compared to the others mentioned. if you think Batis is overated then i am sorry for you. She hits a heavy ball and uses the block very well. i have yet to see her get blocked. She is a very smart hitter and a lot of fun to watch. Oh, and she puts up a huge block! I am not saying she will win but she is in my top three with Engle and Glass. Yes, well you'll both get a chance to be proven wrong on October 11th and then again on November 1st, hmmkay? I, for one, will make a point of resurrecting this thread after those matches so the two of you can start your respective spin machines to stave off embarrassment

Hana Cutura has been on fire recently. She just torched Pepperdine tonight, and absolutely abused Baylor a couple of weeks ago. I'd say a freshman averaging 4.5 KPG and .360 hitting is pretty darn good. She really stepped it up against the best competition Cal's faced too - 18 kills and .433 against Pepperdine - 18 kills and .567 hitting against Baylor.

She's obviously not gonna win it, but I'll just throw out Elyse Cusack's name. As good a passer as Marcie Hampton is, Cusack is better. I haven't seen a freshman pass that well at UF since Aury Cruz. And her defense is just amazing. She has really been impressive this year. Close to 6 digs/game and 3 receive errors in 22 games.

I agree with you ~ she probably won't get it because the first touch on the ball is SOOOO overlooked. The Gators have a GREAT one in Cusack. Like I said before, she is an ENORMOUS upgrade and will keep the Gators in a lot of matches.
