Wisconsin is actually 6-1 on the season; the win over Windsor was an exhibition match and didn't count. I guess a lot of non-starters played that match for UW, but I would have preferred a match that could have been an official win. Oh well. To be honest, though, I doubt the Badgers will be able to blow out many teams this year, so those players might not get on the floor much.

I've seen a lot of teams (including the one I follow) go undefeated (or close) before the conference season starts, only to suffer a losing conference season. Maybe it's sign of improvement, but it'll be more meaningful once the conference season starts.
My guess is that Baylor finishes 6th/7th in the Big 12 and is on the borderline for an NCAA Tournament berth.

BearClause, I think you are just about right about Baylor. I think they get in. Something you didn't see at your Cal tournament was that BU played with their Libero at the OH2 position. She's now back at Libero with 4.7 Dpg. They put a freshmen at OH2 who is 6-3 and hits the ball as hard as Cutura but not as polished yet. Also, Desiree wasn't 100% and now she's hitting.470 with nearly 2 blocks per game. I know I'm being optimistic but I just want to bang the drum so I can say "I told you so" later:)

Big 12 is odd this year. With the coaches pre-season poll as:
Rank Team (First-place Votes) Points 1. Nebraska (8) 98 2. Texas (3) 93 3. Missouri 79 4. Kansas State 71 5. Texas A&M 57 6. Colorado 51 7. Kansas 45 8. Iowa State 37 9. Baylor 35 10. Oklahoma 27 11. Texas Tech 12
Texas and Nebraska will slug it out for the title I think. I don't think either one will slip up against any other Big12 team (but UT is young so...)
Next 4 (making the usual top half, frick'n OkSt.) is very much up in the air.
Pre-season has them as Mizzou, KSU, TAM, CU but I can definitely see ISU, KU, BU and OU upsetting some of these teams when hosting.
I'd guess TAM and MU raise their level as the season progresses and take 3rd/4th.
5th/6th place however are probably a tossup of KSU/CU/ISU/KU/BU.
OU improves in Win/Loss column but likely still finishs at bottom with TT.
Can see 7 teams making the tourney and 1 or 2 with a below .500 conf record.
3rd-9th could be a real cluster*.
My guess is that UN, UT, TAM, MU, KSU, CU and ISU (or perhaps Baylor) make it to the post-season and BU and KU are just pissed with some quality wins over some of those teams and outside conf.

Hey Bearwatch, how are BU's NIRSA club girls looking this year? Is Rachel Holloway's older sister still playing for them? They were sharp the last two years beating National Champs Texas' club team a few times.

Yes, injury is part of the sport, but how many losses has it not been possible to attribute to "Desiree isn't playing/at 100%"? Medical redshirt or not, eventually she WILL complete her eligibility, and then what will you say when your team loses?

Medical redshirt or not, eventually she WILL complete her eligibility, and then what will you say when your team loses? Everyone plays the "injury card" every now and then. I could talk about Cal. Right now it's three PrepVB top 20 recruits unavailable for medical reasons including one who would have likely been starting at middle. Teams need to be assembled knowing there's a likelihood that someone is going to be injured. This is a game where balls are going at high speed at fingers, players get tangled in nets or with each other, and knees/ankles get tweaked (or worse) far too often. Baylor is going to be losing its best two experienced players next season, and Coach Barnes is going to need expect a lot out of his newer players in order to stay competetive in the Big 12. I hope he can do it this year. Baylor in 2006 really reminds me of Cal's 2002 season, except they didn't have any player as good as Mia Jerkov. And when she went down the team's entire outlook changed. And Baylor's two best players aren't coming back, so he'll have to hope that a good season now will improve his recruiting.
