Give the guy a break. He's just doing his part to contribute to the volleyball community. Its easy to be on the Nebraska, Hawaii, or Florida bandwagon, but to faithfully post results and frankly insightful posts on a team, that let's face it no one gives a rat's rear about (even in Waco, sorry Bearwatch) would be kind of hard. Give him credit for being a constant cheerleader for his team, plus I haven't seen many posts where he's ripping on someone else's team.

I agree. His posts aroused enough curiosity in me about Baylor that I included the Bears in this weeks VT contest (against Iowa State). ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Give him credit for being a constant cheerleader for his team, plus I haven't seen many posts where he's ripping on someone else's team. I remember when I was considered perhaps a minor annoyance here when the forum opened in 2002. I was always trumpeting the talent of Mia Jerkov, who was one of the few elite players in recent times called on to practically carry a team to a top 10 ranking. I was always realistic about soft scheduling, and saw it as improvement rather than any kind of true dominance. However - I guess we might have gotten off to a bad start with the generic thread titles and the assertion that a certain Baylor player would knock Pavan right on her keister or that Taylor Barnes sets the "best ball" in the country. I've seen them play. Pretty good team, but extremely vunerable if one top player is injured. I've also found from experience that lower tier teams from the big conferences have beaten up on a soft schedule only to finish with a losing overall record. I saw Oregon going something like 10-1 in nonconference play only to go 2-16 in Pac-10 play. I'm not saying that Baylor will suffer that fate, but I'd be shocked if they beat Nebraska or Texas, and I'd think the most of the Big 12 is still at a higher level than Baylor this season. Coach Barnes had a good recruiting class coming in, and he'll earn his salary if he can make that hard recruiting work pay off.

For the record, there was no particular anti-Baylor sentiment in my response. I feel the same way every time I read about Gysin and USC, or Mason and UH, or Lyman and UCLA.

It could only help Cal if Baylor does well. I've always had a soft spot for Desiree Guilliard-Young and I'd love to see her go out playing in the NCAA Tournament.

Hey, I have thick skin so don't worry, I enjoy the banter. I've played the game for years and enjoyed watching the college game. Now that I go to Baylor I see some great matches with all the Big 12 teams visiting. I really believe Baylor is gaining on the other Big 12 teams. After watching them early this season they have the best talent I've seen and they are playing smart, fast, engergetic volleyball and I like what I see. Certainly they haven't proven anything yet but I believe they could be a top 25 team. Not like the elite teams most of you cheer for but more like 20-25. Besides, if womens basketball can win a national championship (in Waco) why can't I expect volleyball to compete at the top to?

Frankly - I take a look at this 3rd week Pablo list, and see Oregon, Oklahoma, and Baylor in the top 25. The word anomaly comes to mind. This is what can happen from a lower tier team in a power conference running the tables on a creampuff (save Oregon beating LBSU) schedule. Despite their current problems, Hawaii is at least a top 15 team and the Pablo ranking has them at 71. I'll be more impressed with the results after half the conference season is over. Cal has beaten up on a more or less soft schedule so far, so I don't take too much stock in such a high Pablo rating at this point either. I still say Pepperdine (they always have a brutal schedule BTW) is the best opponent they've faced all season even though the Pablo ranking says otherwise. Looking at the Big 12 teams, Baylor has played exactly 2 teams with a current winning record and lost badly to one of them, and none stand out as being particularly challenging this season except for Cal. Oklahoma has an 8-2 record beating only 1 team (South Dakota State?) with a winning record. In the Pac-10, Oregon might even be better than I originally thought, but I doubt they're really a top 25 team yet.

[Looking at the Big 12 teams, Baylor has played exactly 2 teams with a current winning record and lost badly to one of them, and none stand out as being particularly challenging this season except for Cal. And Baylor is ranked behind Cal, so that is all consistent. I considered Oregon's schedule yesterday. Pablo rates it, overall, slightly better than that of Purdue's, comparable to that for USC. Oregon's rank doesn't surprise me much.

All true, but what is impressive is that Baylor is doing it with 4 freshmen and 2 seniors on the court. 11 wins, 9 in a row with that many freshmen is an accomplishment to be recognized. NOW the real test this week with Kansas State on Wed and Iowa State on Sat. Sic 'Em Bears!
