Long Beach State's Alexis Crimes Earns Big West Volleyball Player of the Week Accolades This is Alexis Crimes' second weekly honor of her career. 9/11/2006 After posting a .383 hitting percentage at the Long Beach State Classic, 49er middle blocker Alexis Crimes nabbed her first Big West Volleyball Player of the Week honor of the 2006 season, for the week ending Sept. 10. This weeks honor is Crimes' second of her career. The junior middle blocker averaged 4.33 kills per game, while posting eight digs and seven blocks in Long Beach State's wins over Saint Mary's and Idaho. Long Beach State's 2-0 record last week marks the 49ers' second tournament championship of the 2006 season. She served five straight points in the third game against the Gaels on Thursday night, as Long Beach State fought off three match points and then tied the score at 29-29, before eventually winning the game 31-29. Against the Vandals, the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native tallied five blocks (one solo, four block assists). Long Beach State has a light week ahead with only one contest against UNLV on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Walter Pyramid. Match time is slated for 7:30 p.m. www.bigwest.org//story.asp?story_id=9515
