What makes anyone who follows this match think that OSU could actually beat PSU? Seems like a no-brainer to me....OSU just doesn't seem to be of the same caliber as PSU

I think the OSU coaches know where their team is right now. They start 3 freshman who are not only young, but woefully inexperienced. Their time is not now, but I think they'll be competitive later in the season, and definitely next year. To beat PSU at State College, you need some veterans (can you say Tennessee).

PSU should sleep walk thru the Big 10. Not because the Big 10 is a bad conference but because PSU is at a different level then the rest of the teams. My pre-season #1 pick and choice as overall #1 for December.

PSU will not have as easy of a time with the Big Ten this year as in '05. Purdue, MN, OSU are all improved over last year ... not that they will give them trouble, but Mich and MSU are also much improved as well.
If anything, this year's Big Ten season will make the Lions much better prepared for the post season than they were last year.

For where these teams are right now, PSU should win 3-0 or 3-1. It will not be as a result of OSU's pre-season schedule. With 2 inexperienced and relatively unskilled middles they need time to develop. Getting hammered in the non-conference schedule would not have assisted in that development. Another freshman is starting on the left and she did not arrive until 2 weeks ago. McCarthy is coming back after missing a year. Oh yeah, and Stevens is playing Libero and Meyer left side. New positions for both of them. While there is experience in that group, it will take them some time to come together as a team. By about mid-season it should be clear how good, or bad, the team is. In this early match, I expect they will take their lumps.

Wow - Stevens at libero? That's a switch I wouldn't have expected.

Stevens at libero is a guess. She played that position in the last two matches. With the French girl starting on the left, Ami has to play somewhere. She has the ball control to be a Libero.

It's Ohio State's middles that will probably hurt them. Neither impressed me when I saw OSU beat ASU. But don't for a minute think that Danielle Meyer can't play the outside spot, and play it very well. She moved into it, both offensively and defensively, like she'd been playing there for years. And it only follows that Ami Stevens wouldn't have been moved to libero unless this girl from France had shown that she was the better hitter, or at least equal in that skill. Stevens will be an excellent libero, one of the best in the country. And despite missing a year, Brianna McCarthy is a pretty darned good right side. Marissa Main is about as good as they come.
Still, it will come back to the middles. Can they contribute enough offensively and can they close the block against PSU's monster outside hitters? I don't think they can, they couldn't against ASU. But it will be interesting to see. Another factor is that OSU serves pretty tough. If PSU is not passing all that well, that might be exposed. And if they're being forced to set the outside because of mediocre passes rather than going there by choice, if that's the only option, then the block WILL be closed, and it will be an interesting match.

My cable system doesn't get CSTV. Does anyone know if it will be possible to view the OSU-PSU telecast on the web at the CSTV site?
