I'm thinking the Big 12 is the most competitive tough conference (not necessarily the best so lay off PAC 10) from top to bottom. Just look at all their non- conference records and recent scores. Beg to differ? Let me here it!

I'm thinking I am the ruler of all.
Just because I said so.

so how do you judge with numbers. ? First of all, until we get further into our conference nobody really knows whats going on with such a wide variety of skill levels in pre season. Second, the rankings due to above, are still goofy likely..... Thirdly, competitive? Like how many matches went to 5 games? not sure that is what you mean, or again if you do, then you'll have to wait till everyone has gone thru their confernce teams once.
Competitive again non conference teams?
This whole thing is hard to nail down, for sure...

I think the Big 12 is a strong conference this season. Nebraska and Texas are top level teams, and I think that everyone except Texas Tech probably has some hope of making the NCAAs.

Beg to differ? Let me here it! What about the non-conference record stands out? Although the Big 12 non-conference record has been very good, it falls well short of those for the Pac Ten and the Big Ten, which actually has the best non-conference record of any conference (106 - 16, compared to the Pac Ten's 96 - 16, or so).

Compared to years past -- the Big Ten will be competitive this year, within itself. The bottom half has made some great improvements over last season. If things keep up, this could be the year that 8 teams make the NCAA's, possibly 9. Sorry Iowa and Indiana....

I would guess that the Big12 has more close matches (total points or 5-gamers -- however you want to measure it) than any other conference.
I will believe this until presented with data which fails to support this hypothesis, because that is the way I roll, dammitall.
Does this need to be pirate-proofed?

If you're talking competitive against each other, I'd rate the big conferences the Big 12 is most, Big Ten second, and Pac-10 third. SEC is proving that they are very competitive lately, as well, though, and they've dominated non-conference opponents.
If you're talking about the most competitive against other conferences, then I'd list them as Pac-10, Big 12, Big 10, and SEC.
Why? The Pac-10 has some teams that are dominated night in and out by the upper teams. Matches are easier to predict than the Big 12 or even 10. With exception of maybe ASU, each team in the Pac-10 is capable any day to advance to the second round or further in the NCAA Tournament.

All you lillylovers-Idaho Swabbie has the right idea. No one in the Big 12 is getting ye throat slit or walkin the plank like some of the PAC 10 bottom dwellers. More 5 game matches, among many top athletes- I honestly think that all 11 teams could represent in the NCAA Tourney and win a first round game vs a weaker conference leader! If anyone should get 8 in its the Big 12.
