I just read the article (link below). Can anyone explain why Rod Wilde cannot get a head coaching job? Seems like his resume is pretty good, but I know he has tried hard with no luck at a head coaching job in the women's game. www.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/uwire/092106aab.html

I'd heard in the past (as he mentions in the article) that he hasn't been overly interested in transitioning from being the top assistant at Wisconsin.
"I was working a lot on the men's side and I was looking at some of the women's programs, but wasn't getting a whole lot interest from athletic directors because they saw all the men's background that I had," Wilde said of his decision to come to UW. "So I thought I'd go put two, three years in with a good women's program and then look at head coaching somewhere, but I've liked it so much here and haven't had the real desire to go elsewhere.
"There have been a few positions available, but nothing that has been a good fit and nothing I'd want to do more than being here at Wisconsin," he continued. "It's just really fun to be in this environment and it's hard to match the crowds, fan base and support that we have."

Has anybody thought about the monetary aspect of such a move. Why go someplace where you will work for peanuts? You get used to a certain life style and that is a big factor. ESTRELLA

I have also heard, despite how great of a coach he is and his excellent background, that he does not "interview well".
You still have to stand in front of administrators and players and convince them you are the right person for the job.

It's the red hair bias. He needs to wear a hat to his interviews.

In order to be a successful coach one has not only to know the game of vball but also to be good in managing people and psychology...may be he misses the 2nd part of the equation.

Why do you think he should be fired? Or did you mean to ask why is he still ONLY an Assistant Coach?

I think he does a super job. I just wonder, after reaind the article, why a guy with that kind of experience (playing and coaching) is still an assistant coach. Look around at some of the people who are head coaches at mid to major Division I programs.

I rest my case.

I can see not being in a great hurry to leave Madison, which is a great place to live except for the whole winter lasting forever thing. I hope that he finds a head coaching job that is a good fit for him and gets a good start there like Christy Johnson has, but, in the meantime, I am glad he is coaching the Badgers.

He applied for the Pacific and Boise State jobs last year. I'm not sure what other jobs he has applied for in years past.

"Last Kiss" wasn't a very good movie, btw, in spite of the Madison setting.
