I'd heard in the past (as he mentions in the article) that he hasn't been overly interested in transitioning from being the top assistant at Wisconsin. "I was working a lot on the men's side and I was looking at some of the women's programs, but wasn't getting a whole lot interest from athletic directors because they saw all the men's background that I had," Wilde said of his decision to come to UW. "So I thought I'd go put two, three years in with a good women's program and then look at head coaching somewhere, but I've liked it so much here and haven't had the real desire to go elsewhere. "There have been a few positions available, but nothing that has been a good fit and nothing I'd want to do more than being here at Wisconsin," he continued. "It's just really fun to be in this environment and it's hard to match the crowds, fan base and support that we have." That's odd because it seems like he applies or interviews for 4-5 jobs a year. I took it as meaning various schools contacted him for interviews / offers and they didn't make sense for him to pursue over what he already has at Wisconsin. His wife's family is from Milwaukee, he's presumably being paid well, he's part of a traditionally top 20 ranked program. It would probably take an opening at another top 20-ish program to lure him from Wisconsin.

Maybe it's because he is a man. Hate to say it but we all know the trend in Women's Volleyball lately.

A) there haven't been a lot of opened positions that are worthy for him to apply B) those that were, were filled by the candidates more qualified C) maybe he loves the smell of bomber's cut cheese?
Now that Wade is a head coach at Pacific, Wilde's and Maes' stocks are the hottest right now for assistants ready to make the jump. (Although, to be frank, I think that Hawai'is Kari Ambrozich would make an excellent head coach, as well).

Most of you who curse the red hair probably have less than none. Rod Wilde is the brains in Wisconsin...not Petey. He has a great way working with the girls and like he knows far more than u no hoo!
