Badgers hit well over .300 on the road, and Northwestern attacks at a low .100's rate

Nice weekend for the Badgers. I wouldn't have predicted two sweeps.

Or Wisconsin actually is capable of playing well and beating people. I am happy that the Badgers were able to sweep both matches on the road this weekend, something I don't think they managed to do last year when they were actually a better team. I don't have my media guide insert of records handy, so I am too lazy to look up when they last did that. It looks like the Badgers just rode Dolgner's hot night offensively tonight. That should help her hitting percentage look a lot better. No one had a really off night for the Badgers tonight, and only Hyser really had a big night for the Wildcats. It is a good sign that the Badger offensive numbers are improving. The only real question I have is where Mills and Berkley are playing. One of them plays back row for Jeffers, but I guess the other played some rotations for one or both of the left side hitters, probably Carlini since she only had three digs. I am wondering the reason behind that, since I think both outsides have been pretty good defensively. Maybe it is just going with someone because someone else was off; the Badgers do have the depth to do that. Anyway, it is great to be 2-0 starting on the road, and I hope the Badgers can keep it up. This also keeps BiK from being able to rip the Badgers for losing to a team Hawaii beat, at least until the match in Madison. I am sure he will find something else, though. I have to commend his creativity.

After this weekend, here are some positives the Badgers can build on at this point in the season:
It appears that they have two real terminators at the outside hitter position. Carlini has shown real maturity this year, and has demonstrated she has a very impressive all-around game. And Dolgner just keeps improving. She can blast it, she can tip it, she can even block it. Still has some serve receive issues. Jeffers' hiiting percentage keeps rising, and she seems to be over the worst of her back issues.
Simpson seems much improved, is a terror at the net blocking and in jousts (she rarely loses one), and her setting is more steady...(see hitting percentages). Still too many low sets running middle attacks, but even here the numbers are getting better. Penn State and Purdue seem to have the same problem in this area.
Blocking is outstanding, maybe better than last year. Reineke had 16 blocks in 6 games this weekend, and appears ready to defend her conference blocking title. And Bladow has shown to be very capable putting up a block as well. Jeffers, Simpson, Carlini and even Dolgner have all been major contributors in putting up a wall.
Passing and ball control are much improved from early season woes. Berkley has had some incredible digs and has proved to be a nice serving option, and Wack just keeps steadily rolling. Mills has had some strong efforts as well, needs to reduce service errors. So does Dolgner, for that matter. But Dolgner is becoming a major part of ball control, and should only improve as she loses her rookie conference jitters.
One area I would like to see improvement in is pace of the offense. Though Pete has stated he would like to uptempo the offense, at present it still at times is way too slow and predictable. A question remains whether Simpson is capable of running an offense as speedy as say, Totorello's of last year, but her net play is a nice trade off at this point.
Badgers also need to cut down on service errors, an annually recurring problem it seems to me, given their ratio of aces to errors is at the bottom of the conference. And their depth at middle and right side seems non-existant. But depth is probably an issue with most every conference opponent, with the notable exception of our friends at PSU.
All in all, it's great to be 2-0 after opening on the road.....now the Badgers need to hold serve in their place.

Obviously, it is a certainty that Simpson can set the outside. I do believe, though, that Dolgner will wear out soon...or possibly be stuffed big time by some BIG BIG TEN BLOCKERS!! With the guns Wisconsin has, it is a shame to run an offense based on one and one alone. I hope next year Klingsporn wins the setter position over Slimpson. Seems Klingsporn KNOWS how to adjust to her hitters AND set the middles AND set a more balanced game. Too bad Wisconsin does not offer a course in " How to set volleyball game and not be selfish or &%**$###"? Catch my Hawaiian drift??

[glow=red,2,300][/glow] I so do want to differ with you, silver7. The offense problem lies with Mr. Waite. He so favors the Wisconsin recruits over all! There is like a rumor that had him ordering a Badger to serve OUT on purpose so Wack could like get her ten digs in. Simpson was a major recruit of Christy Johnson, not Waite. He had offered to Mc Ginnis first but like she wanted to go to Florida. Now, he has Slimpson (as you call her) setting like everything to Dolgner. I may become a Wahine fan only because I like to watch good, smart volleyball.
