McGinnis? Why? Florida is underachieving in my book. Have not seen them play, but I can't imagine anyone is playing like an all-american from the match scores I have seen. Not so sure about Pressey either. She is great fun to watch, but let's see how she does after the first round of PAC 10 matches.

Maybe Jessica Vander Kooi from Missouri will be on there? Twice so far this season she's been Big 12 POW and AVCA POW once.

The AVCA supposedly puts more weight into performances against top competition. I realize Cal hasn't had a killer schedule yet, but Angie put up great nights against Pepperdine and Washington, which are their only ranked opponents faced so far.

McGinnis is playing like an AA -- her individual #s are awesome, and her team hitting % is in the top-20. As of now, major contender.

What about Deesing? How's Larson been playing? If you look at the stats, Swarbrick's are as good or better than Deesing's. I don't hink it's a coincidence that both Washington's middles have such glossy hitting percentages. I believe that nice little setter they have has a lot to do with it.

Deesing was at .511 last week. I doubt Swarbrick is taking as many swings as she is. But, for you b, I will check.

I am wrong. And surprised.
Swarbrick is outblocking her, too.
Deesing at .467 with 130 kills and Swarbrick at .433 with 133 kills.

What about Deesing? How's Larson been playing? Swarbrick's stats on UW are arguably better than Deesing's. As Swarbrick has more block and kills per game than Deesing. So, I'm thinking that'd be a tough one to choose Deesing over her. DeGirolamo from LSU doesn't really have the hitting percentage of a 1st team AA. I'd put Foluke up there before her. Foluke's stats are : 4 kpg, hitting .440, 1.54 bpg.

I know most of you feel the state of Utah is full of Warren Jeffs relatives and merits no attention when it comes to volleyball, but Ariel Salvo at Utah and Erica Lott at BYU are having great years. I think they could play for anyone in the country. Chelsea Goodman (BYU)is starting to show AA potential, also. Are any of them first team? Probably not, but 2nd or 3rd for sure.

Foluke's stats are : 4 kpg, hitting .440, 1.54 bpg. And I bet you can forget Swarbrick as an AA candidate. She does not have the pub that some others do. One of my pet peeves. Some athletes get more notoriety than others, why, I'm not certain. Maybe it's the team they play for, or the conference they're in. In Deesing's case she's blocking at 1.12 BPG, hardly an impact blocker for a middle. And, as I said before, you know both Deesing's and Swarbrick"s hitting percentages are helped greatly by their setter. Another case in point....Walbridge at PSU. A good, solid middle blocker that anyone would want on their team. But Sammy made her an All-American. If you look this year, her blocking numbers are still good, but her hitting stats are waaaay down, both in KPG and hitting efficiency. She's really not even part of their offense anymore. I don't think you can make the same case when you evaluate outside hitters, who basically make their offensive reputations on pure hitting ability. But with middles, some of their success lies in who is setting them the ball, and where. Foluke, let's see....that would be Kehoe. Meriweather, um, that's Nellie. Prince, that would be Kamanao. Etc, etc......

I'd say the opposite is true for OHs. Great OHs can make setters look better than they are.
