And Kristin Richards hitting over .500... Wow, she must have read our thread and got pissed. Great win ladies! Hope it carries over to next weekend.

I thought Stanford would win, but I did not expect it to be so easy. Of course, Stanford will win every single time is Kristin Richards plays the way she did tonight. I think this was the first time ever that she has gone through a game without a single error and it is so great to see. She obliterated Cal's block and was just phenomenal. She also passed well and played good defense. Cynthia Barboza was her usual self, getting kills at will and just dominated the frontline. The two of the them are unstoppable when on. If Richards can keep it up, it's nothing but good news for Stanford.
Franci Girard impressed me as well. She has improved so much in her game, most notably her offensive skill set and and definitely showed. Kehoe has the confidence to go to her and it will help keep the block honest. Going into the season, I said that Stanford was only looking for blocking from the M2 position, given the offensive firepower elsewhere, but if Girard can give the Cardinal a few kills a game at a high percentage, even better.
Bryn Kehoe did not have that many assists, but she ran an efficient offense and the passing was pretty good to allow that. There was still a few missed sets between her and the middle blocker, but overall, an excellent game from Kehoe, given that Stanford hit above .300 against a very strong Cal team (though freshman outside hitter Hana Cutura clearly was not at 100% and the game at Berkeley should be much closer). I also really liked the fact that Erin Waller is at the opposite position instead of Nji Nnamani, because she provides more offense and a bigger block. Jessica Fishburn also played well, passing and digging balls at a good rate. The defensive intensity was there again from Stanford, which is always a good sign.
A really steady game overall by the Cardinal and like I said, if they continue to play like they do tonight, they will be very, very tough to stop.

The definetly need to get Foluke more involved. Have to have the 3-headed monster rather than 2.

Checked the season stats and Foluke has been involved- only 2 less kills than Richards and hitting .430. Also, a lot less errors than Barboza and Richards. She didn't have a strong night tonight. 1 Barboza, Cynthia 211 53 505 .313 16 Akinradewo, Foluke 158 27 305 .430 10 Richards, Kristin 160 76 376 .223

Saki: did you see Lindsay Yamasaki tonight?

I was impressed with Stanford. I think it was the most consistent and solid match they have played all season. Kristin stepped her game up and hit very well tonight. She was able to get a lot of kills hitting line. Towards the end, she was also heating up and bringing quite a punch. Cynthia played solid all the way around -- wasn't her best match but played solidly. Franci continues to impress me greatly this season compared to those past years. She is actually hitting the ball this year and providing another solid threat. I really like her! I like Waller in the front row also. I hate to say it, but I wish she played all the way around actually. Nnamani is actually a liability in the backrow. They push her out of the passing rotation and she looks lost half the time on defense. So I'm not really sure why she is even there. Foluke didn't have her best night offensively, but she didn't play poorly either. He blocking was great tonight. Actually, the team's block was great tonight. Service errors were a problem on both sides, but particularly Cal. Barboza had 4 errors also. Stanford seemed to have much, much more energy on defense tonight which I was glad to see. It had been awhile. They got up a lot of balls that normally they wouldn't have. I am still not impressed with Fishburne as a libero. She had a few nice digs, but also let some drop. Her passing still leaves much to be desired. Let's just hope for the best. I felt Richards still had a few passing woes as well tonight, but not as bad as previous matches. Mmmm, thats about it.

SHe needs more than that for Stanford to dominate.

I didn't think Foluke was that hot tonight anyway. Even though she got credit for 7 block assists, in actuality, she was barely in the neighborhood when she got credit for some of those, in particular, it was Richards who solidly blocked several.
I agree with all the posters who are impressed with Girard, I had read that she had some injury last season, maybe that is why she is so much better, plus whatever she did in the off season. She also looks a lot happier, and when she does well her smile lights up the court. Dunning seemed to get most irritated with her last year as well, yelling at her in this exasperated manner that made me wince for her. He seems a lot more pleased these days.
Wonder if Suiter will ever play this season in a starting role. It doesn't look promising does it. Also, once Fisher starts playing, I wonder if she could be a challenger for OPP. Waller is okay, but she's not great. Hucke was the last great OPP in my opinion.

Where's Bearclause? I was hoping to see some pictures. I looked for him (saw him last year), but didn't see him last night. The crowd was pretty large, though.
