I think UCSB could have left the court and still won that last game. You wouldn't think that if you saw how animated kathy was tonight. I hadn't seen her anywhere near that intense this season. We had a ridiculous lead at one point and she was up out of her seat screaming at the players about communication mistakes. She looked downright disgusted. Pepperdine had a lot of trouble passing. Leite served for something like 5 straight points. Gotta love the jump float. Also, I haven't seen the stats, but I think we outblocked them. When we weren't blocking them, we were usually in great position. The hit would come down and someone would be right there behind the blocker digging it up, almost making it look easy. I think the only real problems were in the back row. Any time the ball is hit between two players, they have a hard time figuring out who's going for it.

Any time the ball is hit between two players, they have a hard time figuring out who's going for it. It couldn't have been too bad, according to the stats we only had 1 receive error the whole night. The passing is much better than last year, and that is reflected in the high hitting marks for our middles.

It was great to see Kathy back in action; it felt like old times. Talked with Kathy after the match, she was happy with the teams play and looking forward to the Cal Poly match. Olivia was on tonight, looking good, she serves, blocks, and hits what else can you want. I would like to see a little more “follow the ball”/”ball sense” in the back row and they need to call it. Several times the movement was late. Passing was better, the setter also was able to move and vary who she set to. Several of the kills were placed rather than powered through the trees, this was great. Overall they played really darn well tonight – they came together and played like a team.

Who's Lydia? Do you mean Olivia? Olivia has been playing great lately but wasn't exactly ON tonite. I think she hit a .167. The other middle Quirarte hit .500 and had 8 of the 13.5 blocks. the good news is that if one of the middles isn't ON, the other one seems to pick up the slack. It's also a little hard to tell them apart sometimes...tall thin blondes....

Some great digs and much better blocking for the Gauchos tonight. Pepperdine hitters definitely looked like they were physically unable to play the 3rd game, they had lost their legs by that point. And it was great to see the Gauchos play with so much confidence for the entire match.

notcreative You are correct my mind was wandering - Thanks much
The stats seemed different to what I was seeing - I wonder what they are counting as kills?

"and had 8 of the 13.5 blocks."
Actually, that was 8 block assists which is 4 team blocks. None the less, she had a great night. Saraceno also really picked up her blocking tonight with 7 block assists. That would be a real plus for us if she could keep that up because we haven't been getting a lot of blocking from our outsides. Little Brandt also had a solo block, you gotta love that.

Well, time to go to bed. A really good win for UCSB, and the second time in so many meetings that we have swept them.
Nice job Gauchos!
