PAC-10 NOTES
# ARIZONA - Despite dropping a pair of matches to UCLA and USC last weekend, the Wildcats put up a solid block at the net. Against UCLA, Arizona was led by Dominique Lamb (10 blocks), Jacy Norton (9 blocks) and Randy Goodenough (8 blocks) in posting 20 team blocks. The `Cats held UCLA to a team attack percentage of .120, well below UCLA's season average of .279. Against USC, Arizona gathered 11 team blocks behind Norton (6 blocks) and held the Women of Troy to a .197 attack percentage.
# ARIZONA STATE - Junior MB Staci Smith hit .308 with 18 kills and six blocks in a hard-fought five-game match against USC. Junior MB Collette Meek was error-free in matches with USC and UCLA. She hit .421 with eight kills in 19 attempts against USC, then hit .714 in collecting five kills on seven attempts against UCLA... Freshman S Marina Mercer posted a season-high 56 assists in the loss to USC. With 39 digs over the weekend, junior L Sydney Donahue moved into thrid on ASU's all-time list with 1,389 digs.
# CALIFORNIA - Senior S Samantha Carter dished out 33 assists in the loss at Stanford, giving her 5,006 assists for her career. Only five other players in Pac-10 history have recorded 5,000 or more assists... After facing No. 6 Stanford in Maples Pavilion, the Bears continue their difficult road trip with matches at No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 USC... Junior OH Angie Pressey picked up 13 kills and 10 digs at Stanford. She has now posted a double-double in each of the last four matches, averaging 5.00 kills per game and 3.7 digs per game over those four matches.
# OREGON - At 2-3 in Pac-10 play the Ducks have posted two wins in the first half of league play for the first time since the 1992 season. In fact, the last time the Ducks started Pac-10 play at 2-3 was in 1991... Coach Jim Moore is one conference victory away from equaling the total number of Pac-10 wins by the Ducks in the five seasons before his arrival... Junior MB Karen Waddington tallied 11 blocks in the split with the Washington schools. She leads the Ducks in blocks, averaging 1.59 per game. She would rank second in the Pac-10, but needs to play in more game to qualify for statistical rankings.
# OREGON STATE - Freshman OH Rachel Rourke collected 30 kills (3.75 kpg) in a pair of road losses at the Washington schools. She has led the Beavers in kills in each of the last seven matches, averaging 4.28 kpg over that span... Freshman MB Lexie Rathgeber posted 13 blocks over the weekend, averaging 1.63 per game. She tallied a career-high nine blocks at Washington State. For the season, Rathgeber leads the Beavers with 1.04 bpg.
# STANFORD - The Cardinal hit .354 in their home victory over California. It was the fifth time in the last six matches that Stanford has hit .300 or better... Through the first seven matches of the season, junior OH Franci Girard was hitting .215 with 31 kills (1.55 kpg). Over the last eight matches, Girard is hitting .478 with 50 kills (2.08 kpg)... Coach John Dunning needs four victories to reach 600 career wins.
# UCLA - At 6-0 in Pac-10 play, the Bruins are off to their best start in league action since 1999 when they opened league play with 13 consecutive wins... Senior MB Nana Meriwether needs eight blocks to reach 500 total blocks for her UCLA career... Senior OH Colby Lyman was a steady performer for the Bruins on the swing through the desert. She tallied a pair of season-highs with 17 digs and four aces at Arizona, then followed that by hitting .818 (nine kills, no errors, 11 attempts) and four blocks at Arizona State.
# USC - Senior L Debora Seilhamer became USC's career record holder in digs over the weekend. She only needed 18 digs to set the mark, then went out and picked up 28 at Arizona State. Her total stands at 1,729 career digs, which ranks third all-time in the Pac-10... Junior OPP/OH Asia Kaczor collected a season-high 27 kills in the five-game victory at Arizona State. That's the most kills by a Pac-10 player in a match this season... The next four matches for the Women of Troy are at home with No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 California, No. 3 UCLA, and on the road at No. 5 Washington.
# WASHINGTON - The Huskies had a season-high 13 service aces against Oregon State. Sophomore OH Jilly Collymore paced the Washington servers with five aces of her own... Sophomore MB Jessica Swarbrick upped her hitting percentage from .433 to .445 after collecting 18 kills on 30 swings with just two errors in victories over Oregon and Oregon State. She currently ranks third in the league in hitting, behind UCLA's Nana Meriwether (.509) and teammate Alesha Deesing (.456).
# WASHINGTON STATE - Senior OH Kelly Rosin picked up 18 kills in the win over Oregon State to become the ninth Cougar to reach 1,000 career kills. Her total stands at 1,007 career kills, good for eighth on WSU's all-time top ten list... Sophomore OH Brittany Johnson hit .327 and tallied 20 kills, while junior OH Adetokunbo Faleti hit .320 and posted 22 kills against Oregon State. It was the first time this season that two or more WSU players posted 20 or more kills in the same match season.
