I've learned a long time ago that the Pac-10 Player of the Week award doesn't always reward the best performance, or the best individual performance from the best team performance. It's decided by a few people in the Pac-10 office in Walnut Creek and they decide whatever they want to decide. For better or worse, historical considerations factor into their final decisions.
I really have no problem with this. Oregon has been down so long, and I don't even remember the last time they have a Pac-10 PotW. There are a lot of things that are unfair. I still have my complaint about a player I followed not getting Pac-10 PotW on a weekend where everything she touched turned to gold. In retrospect, Courtney Thompson should have been Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2003, but there's no way to change what happened. These are the breaks.

Now BC, If I remember correctly you were screaming that Sam Carter should have been FOY that same year.

Now BC, If I remember correctly you were screaming that Sam Carter should have been FOY that same year. I said in retrospect. Even so, I still think Carter had a better freshman season than Richards. But Thompson really outdid both of them as a freshman. Seriously - Thompson should have gotten that award. I know the way this works. For the people who wanted Richards to receive 2003 FOY over Carter or Thompson it was, "Well - it was their hitters who made them look better." When the argument in 2004 was Kehoe over Morrison, it was "She's really the difference maker as a setter." Everyone has their own favorites, and of course arguments are going to be malleable depending that favoritism. I'm as guilty as the next person.

Because considering Oregon's historical figures, a sweep of anyone by this team is a huge accomplishment. Not to take anything away from Stanford's wins, but they've gotten their huge shares of POWs, i mean they had one just last week.
