As long as something is done to give non-host-school fans a decent (equal?) chance at tickets.

I think the thing "everyone on this board" is objecting to is an idea that I actually haven't seen suggested by any Nebraska fan in this thread: the idea that Omaha could become a permanent host for the NCAA final four in volleyball. Now there are some in Nebraska who have argued for that with a straight face, and I think it's understandable if fans in other parts of the country want to shoot that idea down, but fortunately no-one's seriously suggesting it here. By the same token, the thing I hear Nebraskans arguing against is also something I haven't seen posted by "everyone else": that there's something wrong with Nebraska hosting a tournament or two. I see objections to the "permanent home" idea, but not to the 2006 tournament. You can hardly blame someone for being proud of their home state and wanting to defend it, but fortunately nobody here is saying a single final four would be unfair. Now, we could talk about committing to the 2008 tournament before Omaha had shown what it could do, but the point about no previous tournaments having been held in Nebraska is well taken.

I am tired of hearing how much Nebraska fans love volleyball... they don't love volleyball: they love Nebraska volleyball. Do not cross Sarah Pavan's path.

As long as something is done to give non-host-school fans a decent (equal?) chance at tickets. I would almost bet that will happen for 2008. I really think the Husker Athletic Department was kind of shocked at the response they got from the season ticket holders. I would guess their thought process went something like this. OK, we've got 4 thousand season ticket holders - most will probably buy tickets to the Final 4 even though there is no guarantee the Huskers will make it. The AVCA will take say 3 thousand. Maybe a few more thousand Husker fan's will request them later if we make it and then a couple of thousand maybe for the other schools and supporters of volleyball in general. But selling 17,000 for Qwest will be quite a challenge, right, we're still probably at least 5 or 6 thousand short. Then they say, "It would be great to somehow sell as many of those as we can to Husker fans." So let's tell our season ticket holders (and big time $$ supporters of the athletic department) that they can request more tickets. What happened was that those requests that came in far excessed the available seats and they even had to limit their season ticket holders requests. Had I known then that there would be such a demand, I would have ordered 4 rather than 2 tickets so friends of ours could have went with us to Omaha. I think they just underestimated how much demand there was in this state to go to a Final 4. I would bet there will be some kind of a priority or drawing system in 2008 once they get past that first 4 or 5 thousand seats for their regular season ticket holders.

And let's not just put the "blame" on NU. Even after the tickets went on sale, and sold out, the NCAA web site had nothing about the 2006 tournament let alone when tickets would be available. I had kept checking the NCAA web site as to when tix would go on sale only to find out on VT that they were sold out. The NCAA needs to take some responsibility on this and keep their own sites current and informative.

USC, UCLA, Washington, Stanford That would be cool, but I doubt they will spread all 4 out. You know one of the 4 brackets won't have a Pac-10 team in it. Or it may have Oregon in it or something like that.

No one has yet to prove these tickets went to people. I still think a HUGE number went to ticket brokers who will be fleecing Nebraskans for the next two months.
Anyone checked a ticket broker site recently?
Not commenting on whether this is good or bad (p-dub will argue it is for the best), but I still don't believe those tickets went that fast to plain ol' Nebraskans.

I am tired of hearing how much Nebraska fans love volleyball... they don't love volleyball: they love Nebraska volleyball. I've attended two different tournaments involving Nebraska... an early season tournament in San Diego in 1998 and the Final Four in San Diego in 2001. When Nebraska wasn't playing, their fans did not show up. If Nebraska loses in a national semi-final at the Qwest Center, expect no more than a half-full arena for the national finals... and that's assuming that the AVCA convention is still in town. The College World Series arrangement, which features Omaha in a good month (June), has been undermined by Nebraska's success in baseball, making Rosenblatt Stadium a partisan site for the tournament. The Qwest Center is not even close to being a neutral site for volleyball. Putting the Final Four there every year, or every other year, would be flagrantly unethical... and it would likely inspire the AVCA to move its convention elsewhere (who would want to come to Omaha in mid-December so often? Brrrr...). At the 2004 Final Four the Husker fans outnumbered the fans for pretty much all of the fans for the teams that actually made it to the Final Four combined. At the 2001 Final Four I recall seeing a lot of Husker fans in attendance for the championship match. OTOH: I still have a lingering annoyance with ESPN for putting their blasted "boom cam" right in font of our otherwise excellent seats for the championship match.

I discovered several tickets available for outrageous prices on different ticket broker web sites. That needs to be curtailed somehow.

$130 (single session) - $300 (2 day pass) for $41 tickets. Who says VB hasn't hit the big time!
And, I know, if I really wanted to go I could pay this.

300 bucks? ? Congratulations, VolleyDorks! You finally have the popularity you've all been craving, so no longer will the Cool Kids kick sand in your faces at the playground or laugh at your prom hand-me-down powder blue ruffle tuxedo. Now you have taken a step down the path toward equality with the other money-grubbing soulless mainstream college sports. Bravissimo!
