I've been pleased with the AVCA poll thus far this season and I think those responsible for voting have done an excellent job. I applaud you for your hard work, good job folks.

and apparently an eight match losing streak has no impact on the voters. There should be something to be said for being somewhat consistent.

Why is OSU still in the top 25?? They were 24 last week and got walloped twice this past weekend. Sure both teams were ranked higher, but OSU doesnt deserve it. Agreed....from how they've played the last two weeks, and who they have playing, they don't deserve top 25 recognition. They've played a bunch of weak sisters early on, which comprised the bulk of their wins. Look for them to drop out entirely within the next two weeks. They need to string some wins together just to get invited to the dance.

Yes, and after seeing yesterday's match, it is even more annoying to me that the Badgers weren't able to win one of the last three games to take the match in Columbus. I think that OSU could help themselves this weekend, though. They aren't bad enough to lose at home to IU, and they had the chance to beat Purdue on the road but couldn't close it out. I think the Boilers are a better team, as OSU seems to be regressing, but they have the talent at least to win that match. Maybe Meyer will wake up. That would help. Szerszen shouldn't have to try to do everything for a team with so many experienced hitters.

The Bears haven't been consistent (ie, four freshmen on the floor) but they are a dangerous group. If they have found the formula they are more capable then most the teams in the Big 12. This week will be very telling.

It seems clear that the Big 12 is down this year in regard to having several teams at the top who can compete for a sweet 16 or elite 8 spot. More balance, sure, but I don't think anybody aside from Nebraska has shown the consistency necessary to win 2-3 big matches in the NCAA tournament. Texas has more talent than all but 3-4 schools, but they are not doing as much with their talent as I expected. Oklahoma is over-achieving. If Texas would play as hard as Oklahoma, they would win the national title. Santiago is a lock for coach of the year in the Big 12. What is up with K-State, Kansas, and Texas AM? Colorado is weaker than expected. I like the improvement of Baylor and Iowa State, but I am not surprised. Hard-nosed coaches will develop tough teams who will compete and with close matches. In the end, when Oklahoma - with mid-major talent is the 2nd best team in your league, it is a down year for the Big 12. Look for 4-5 teams to get in and It think Iowa State will over-take Colorado in the league standings to take the fifth spot.

how is LSU still too high? They beat Minnesota, are you suggesting Minnesota is too high as well? Mix Breed says that only because he has never seen LSU play.

I was almost ready to start a post with something like, "It seems clear that the Big 12 is UP this year in regard to having several teams at the top who can compete for a sweet 16 or elite 8 spot." If you look at Pablo, which at this time of the year seems more objective than the polls, the Big 12 has 3 of the top 9 teams and 6 of the top 27. Why is it when Pac-10 teams beat each other up, we talk about how strong the league is yet when they are doing it in the Big 12 the perception seems to be that is a weakness? So much will depend on the tournament seed, but 3 teams to the sweet 16 sure wouldn't seem like a surprise to me.

It's true: If Missouri, Nebraska, and Texas split home/away matches, it must be because each is overrated. However when USC, Washington, Stanford, and UCLA regularly split, they collectively leapfrog each other into the top 10.

That's because they START in the Top 10. It colors everything that happens from that point on.

Ohio State has been on the road eight of twelve matches in the Big Ten. That is brutal in the Big Ten and two or three teams each year have to go through something like that (This year is was Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin). You watch, Ohio State will pick things up playing six of it's final eight at home and be peaking at tourney time. Northwestern had the same schedule last year and were 3-9 at this point in the season and they came within one point of reaching the sweet 16.
