In that Klineman article on SI.com, sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/dave_krider/10/31/klineman.ptp/index.html?section=si_latest, there was a brief mention of the 1988 Newport Harbor team as generally being recognized as the best high school team in history. Who else, besides Misty May, was on that team? How does it compare to the potential of this year's Mira Costa team with Klineman, Bledsoe, Bateman, (Lane) Carico, Fonoimoana, Law, etc.? Note: modified thread title since no one seems to know when Misty was in high school.

Misty May in 1988? She's not that old. I was wondering about that too, but that's the year that was quoted by the writer.

Misty May in 1988? She's not that old. No wonder LBSU did so well while Misty was playing there - she was in her late 28's when she was a frosh!

Trying to remember...Fall of 1993 is when Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar were 1 and 2 in the nation. That was May's junior year. Trying to remember who else was on that team. Someone with a "Sch-" in their name.

I believe the lineup included Melissa Schultz and Kelly Campbell, amongst others. Jennifer Stroffe was at CdM, while Wacholder was at Laguna Beach.

Correct, Misty's big years at Newport were '93 and '94. CDM was big in '93, with Stroffe and Coleman. Newport in '88...not sure who was on that team. Megan McAllister was big at Mira Costa, and I think she played with McPeak. VB Mag did a story on the best HS teams of all time a few years back, when Gysin and crew were juniors at St Francis. Anyone remember those results?

Mira Costa back in the day had Arce, McPeak, McCallister, but also youngsters (at that point) Piper Hahn, Rainy Chrisman, Krystal Atwood, and Heidi Eick, along with Corie, the DS.

Dude, you forgot Kerrie Trieschman (with Arce, McPeak, McCallister) who got the most All-American awards during college than any of the three. However McPeak made a name for herself on the beach afterward.

Because Misty came from a "war torn" region in North Orange County, Ca. Long Beach State was able to get her admitted at the age of 25 but was allowed to keep her age secret due to the fact that the enemies of her in the County of Orange would be as likely to pick on her once she arrived on the college scene.....she was secretly sent to an unknown location behing the old Iron curtain to escape the violence and trajedy of North Orange County only to be exiled back to the Southern region of Los Angeles County where she emerged and became the superstar that we all knew she could be.....
