That riverside announcer should have been put out of my misery. Every riverside point he called like a soccer goal, usually with some canned sound effect immediatly following. I finally muted the sound since he wasn't giving the scores anyway.

The Gauchos did not look good at all tonite. Fullerton gave Poly everything they could handle, and I'm predicting a UCSB loss tomorrow night unless the Gauchos step it up.

We hit .291 First game was a little tight at 27 but we won the next two -17 -18. 3 hitters over .300. I don't think that's all that bad. Most important, Quirarte went 9-2-15 @ .500 with 1 solo and 2 block assists. That was really good news.

I'm telling you, no disrespect intended, but Riverside is not a very good team. UCSB did not look sharp blocking, defensively or hitting.
The Poly vs Fullerton match was played at a whole different level, and either of those teams would have crushed the Gauchos tonite. I hope we play a lot better tomorrow or we will be in big trouble. Please prove me wrong - Go Gauchos !!!

I'm telling you, no disrespect intended, but Riverside is not a very good team. UCSB did not look sharp blocking, defensively or hitting. I saw UCR's setter play once in high school; she's from my hometown. She had great setting hands and was very athletic (set/hit out of a 6-2 in HS). She was also league MVP her senior year. I think she could have probably put up better numbers with a stronger team around her.

"UCSB did not look sharp blocking, defensively or hitting."
McLaughlin and Sarceno didn't hit well, but that is nothing new. Our other 3 hitters all hit over .304, .432, and .500. You consider that poor hitting? Down defense, I couldn't tell. As for blocking, I have been told many times from other posters on this board that you can't expect to see great blocking stats when playing a team that sucks. And if you have read any of my other posts about UCR, then you know my opinion of the quality of their team. Given that, 8 team blocks in a 3 game match doesn't seem that bad. I guess we'll see tonight against Cal State Disneyland.

Hard to measure the UCSB performance when the opponent is a team like UCR- that said, UCSB's offense was the strength once again in this match (.291 vs .122). Not a lot to separate the two teams in blocking and dig totals. UCSB will need to have all 5 of its hitters have a good match against CSF tonight. Leite played much more and brought some real quickness to the back row play.

"Leite played much more and brought some real quickness to the back row play."
You're right, I didn't notice that in the box score. Stephenson didn't play at all. Is she injured or benched? Does this mean Kathy has decided to focus on Leite to replace Emily?
