This should be an exciting week of volleyball if you like potential #1 vs. #2 matchups. UCLA could even get 1000 people out to a match more than once this year. What does everyone think about the matchups? Both teams distribute the ball well amongst their hitters so it is hard to focus on one or two guys.
If BYU's middles win the inside battle it will open up the outside. Same for UCLA, if Pena and Johnson can get hot early, they will help create favorable matchups on the outside.
Defense will win these matches. Both teams have plenty of offensive firepower, the team that gets a lot of hands on balls allowing their back row to dig them up will be critical. I can see Schrader having a big weekend with a lot of digs.
It would be nice if teams kept track of their creates/converts. That is a big indication of a team's success. I think the team that finds their consistency first has a good shot at making it a quick night on either night. I can definitely see at least one game going 5 though.
Please give us a rundown of what you think. I would love to hear who you Beach fans are rooting for. Logically you would be rooting for BYU, but you guys do your own thing sometimes. Seems like both teams are disliked by many so maybe you don't care. One thing is for sure though, there will be some intense volleyball at the Pauley Pavilion. Wish I could be there.

Frankly I really don't care who wins out on this series. I expect a split and I am sure that UCLA would be thrilled with a split. I can see a BYU sweep though.....really don't wanna see UCLA get better, cause we have beaten them twice already and I know that beating anyone a third time is tough....currently they are tied with the Beach for 2nd place I believe, but of course we have the tiebreaker as does BYU over us should they lose both matches......I'll be rooting for BYU, but in a kind of indifferent way ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I rooted intently for LBS to sweep UH. What happened to their Internet video? I think it was down or something. I'm surprised UH took a match. They really seemed to be the lessor team this year.
The Bruins would like to sweep BYU more for keeping confidence after a good week last week, with what seems to be a set linup, finally, and some guys really stepping up to give them a much needed balanced attack. (4 guys in double figures against Pepp, and 5 guys in doubles against USC.) I gurantee they'll be entertaining matches.

UH should've took more than one match, they should've swept the 49ers off of the court in 3 Saturday night to take both matches against LBSU.
I'm going with BYU to win both matches against UCLA, just a hunch.

Must have been the lineup changes. And playing at SSC can be very intimidating for visiting teams.

Dang, I would love to watch that game. My feelings...well, since UCLA made comments about foreign players, I hope they lose, but then again, I dont' care for BYU either, so I hope they lose haha, actually, I'm the one who loses because I will not be able to see an awesome game. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)

Here is the real thread that should be garnering heavy thought and consideration if any on this site. And not because I started it. If you love the game, it's weekends like this that you wait for and get excited about. Both teams have a lot that they are playing for.
Should UCLA lose both games this weekend, they could slip to the 5 seed if they lose to CSUN next week and potentially have to face BYU in the 2nd round at BYU in the MPSF tourney (again, potentially). BYU is always tough the first night of a 2 match weekend. LBSU would be in better shape that way only having to play one of those 2 teams--assuming they make the tourney finals of course.
So LBSU fans there's something to thing about...you could root for that. There's a lot of season left though. No one is a shoe-in for any seeding other than the #1 seed.

I just had a question. In the MPSF, if the #1 seed in the tournament doesn't end up winning the tournament and the automatic bid into the Final Four, have they always been awarded the At-Large, even if they lose in the first round-second round.

I think I agree with BIK....UH should have won both nights. From what I could hear on the internet broadcast, the first night, Touzinsky was a little off. Ironically, it sounded like the Beach's battle with BYU, except we didn't split. Against BYU, Beach was up 2-0 games the 1st night and lost in 5, 15-13....BYU was up 2-0 games the 2nd night and lasted to win in 5, 15-13, great volleyball, benwhip, you should have seen that one.
As for UCLA, BYU- a split would be nice. I rarely do, but I agree with Beachman. I don't want either team to improve, gain confidence, etc. etc. Playoffs are going to be exciting no matter where your seed is.
