MOP--Steve Klosterman; for all the press he got during the first part of the year he is almost non-existent in the media now. Maybe he'll have a break through this weekend.
My 2nd choice would be Sean Rooney. He has still put up decent stats but I just had more hopes for him. I see him as being able to take over a match offensively but haven't seen him do this yet except maybe against weak teams. I think he was a better blocker as a Freshman, but with Sean Rooney next to you I can see how that would up your blocking stats. I don't see him as a 1st team All-American this year. 2nd at most and more likely a 3rd or HM. Maybe my expectations were too high for him.
MUP--Tanner Sutherland; the first 2 matches of the year he was amazing. He has huge skills for a Freshman. Not sure why he hasn't gotten more PT at OH or OPP on a mediocre Pepperdine team this year.
I know my first choices are both freshman but they were the first to come to mind. This is my opinion.

MOP - Sean Rooney. Great player---but has not improved.
MUP - Is between Pena and Kowal. Pena because of the intangables and the level that he plays night after night. I know his enthusiasm spills over to the other team..making them work harder, so in this light it backfires. But I still enjoy watching his whole act. Kowal because of his numbers/smoothness ratio. The greats always seem to do it effortlessly. It is not till you see the stats that you realize how good he really is.
To pick just one...I have to use the "minus formula." (If UCLA was without Pena--If PSU was without Kowal....) Kowal wins easily.

MOST OVERRATED - this is between Sean Rooney and Matt Proper (psu)
MOST UNDERRATED - Aaron Mansfield (ucsb)

MOP - Wouldn't disagree with Red's comments in this catagory. MUP - Do disagree with Red's comment re T.S. He's hitting .176 and as a part time libero, he's avg 1.1 digs per game. If his first 3 or 4 shots in a game are off, he's off. Pull him. I'm liking Dan Rhodes as we come down the stretch (CSUN). FOY?

Most underrated: Mattholamew Benderinski.
AKA Matt Bender - Hawaii
Nobody is talking about this guy who could/should be an inspiration to all aspiring volleyball players out there!
He took his best shot when the opportunity was presented and leaped from being a name on the roster to a crowd-drawing, unstoppable force.
A very good example of what hard work and determination can do for you!
Way to go Matt!

MUP - Is between Pena and Kowal. ================================= Not sure how an all-american from last year can be considered in the MUP category. (kowal)
Not sure how you can put a guy like Rooney who is hitting over .400 for the season in the MOP category.

Hey People that don't/won't/can't read the questions prefacing the thread,
Would you please read the opening comment and respond accordingly? It says "without getting personal..." This means in your opinion. Express YOUR OWN opinion, leave mine alone. Please post according to the question. This isn't a debate thread.

MOP....I would have to say Rooney. I thought he was so much better as a freshman.
MUP......ummmm.........good question. I love Shawn Olmstead, the libero at BYU. He gets overshadowed because he isn't as flashy as Pessoa, Moreno, Burke, Gorny, and Baptista. But he is stable defensive player and passer.

MUP... I vote for Jeff Wooten of LBS. He has really come on strong lately, and deserves some nice acolades.
Johnson of UCLA has also been strong of late, as have Krashaar and Wenger.

Ok....without getting personal.
I guess I asked the questions so I should participate
MOP - Matt Proper - big touches 11'10 - major billing - totally underachieved this year. Never corrected that armswing.
MUP - Gotta go with a player who should also get some Freshmen of the Year votes. Dan Rhodes. I don't think Jeff had a clue what a score he made with this kid last year.

Way to go Matt! matt was one of those guys that people talked about briefly in the beginning of the season. i don't think anyone paid much attention to him. now people go to watch him for his skills and his enthusiasm! i'm sure that by the end of his career he will no longer be underrated.
