UT's Engle Named CVU.com National Player of the Week Nov. 14, 2006
The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) selected freshman Ashley Engle (Texas) as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for the matches of Nov. 6-12.
Engle is the second Big 12 player to be honored, and the first this season. Colorado's Allie Griffin received the accolade on Oct. 18, 2005.
A 6-3 right side from Yorba Linda, Calif., Engle paced the Longhorns offensively in two victories last week, as well as set a career-high for digs.
With the victories needed to stay in second place -- just ahead of Oklahoma -- in the Big 12, Texas started the week by rolling past Texas A&M. In that match, Engle knocked down 13 kills to go with seven digs, three blocks and a match-high five aces.
Then, against Missouri, Engle followed up by drilling 24 kills on .447, also recording a career-high with 19 digs for the double-double. She also had an ace and four blocks in the match.
For the week, Engle averaged 5.29 kills on .395 hitting, as well as 3.71 digs. She totaled six aces and seven blocks.
