Was wondering how many nights prior to the begining of a Regional or Sub-Regional the NCAA covers?
And more importantly, can a school travel sooner and pay for the extra nights themselves?
I suspect the NCAA would only cover for a Fri/Sat Regional, hotel rooms for Wed-Sat with teams flying/driving in on Weds and heading out on Sunday.
The only reason I ask, is I still see Hawaii as the most lucrative site for top seeds. (Who wants to face the possiblity of taking on Texas, Florida, or Wash on their home court.) So the only major drawback for PSU or Nebr getting placed in the UH region is the timezone adjustment.
If the team were to fly out the Sunday following the sub-regional, getting is on Sunday or early Monday, they'd have 4-5 days to adjust. For Nebr, if they were then to win the UH regional, flying back home on Sunday would still give them 5 days at home to prepare for Final Four. PSU's trip might be more intensive since they'd probably go straight to Omaha so they'd be on travel for 2 wks straight heading into the Final Four.
If UNL's VB program would cover the previous Sun-Wed per-diem and hotel accomodations, would they be allowed to fly out to Hawaii earlier than the other teams in the regional who couldn't foot the added bill?

Obviously, Washington is going to be in the Seattle bracket and Nebraska is not. So, pencil Nebraska and Hawai'i into the Honolulu bracket with the Huskers as the #1 national seed... but what national seed do you give Hawai'i? Make them a #16 seed opposite Nebraska and their fans will scream... make them a #8 or #9 seed and everyone else will scream. Who would be the #8 and #9 seeds. anyway? Would the committee keep Stanford and UCLA and USC away from Honolulu? If the committee sent USC or UCLA to Honolulu as a #8 or #9 seed, that sounds more like an ambush (ala 2004) than a desirable matchup. It would make more sense for the NCAA to seed either Texas or Florida as a #8 or #9 seed and send Nebraska to be the #1 seed in their regional.

the biggest problem for the fans in going to Hawaii for the regional is the cost of airplane tickets....they are sky high this time of year....not a good thing for the opposition but "tailor made" for the home crowd!

For those Husker fans that think Hawaii would be the best regional, they may be right .. as far as advancing to the Final Four.
I feel confident that it probably isn't in the Huskers' best interest to be in the Honolulu regional. If they were to advance to the Final Four from Honolulu, the time zone changes on the body are going to be much more severe going eastward. It takes more than a few days before your body will be "in sync". And for a team that hasn't travelled much this season, they might be flatter than they were last year against Washington. Ask Florida what it's like to fly back east after a tourney in Hawaii .... Isn't that when they were pressed by teams that they should've handily beaten? .. Isn't that about when they had that miscue at South Carolina?
Anyway, Husker fans shouldn't look past the effects of travelling across all those time zones (especially going BACK to Omaha). I still think Nebraska could get out of the Texas Regional unscathed.

Naive fans would think that Hawai'i would be the most "lucrative" site for top seeds, Astute Volleyball fans know that Texas is the most lucrative site. Texas may have an athletic team but they have little history, experience, and their "homecourt" advantage would be a wash at best. The Wahine are a hard opponent, at home with their season on the line. I'd like their chances against either Nebraska or PSU. I actually hope Nebraska is sent to Honolulu.

Perhaps, and Playoff matches are much different than regular season matches but the previous matches of: UNL@UT, PSU@UT and UT vs UW makes me think facing UH at home is the better bet. Plus, I'm not sure you're giving last years UH team enough credit in helping the UT program along in the experience dept. Losing in the playoffs on your home court is a great learning experience and a spark for the following year's playoff. I can see why you hope UNL gets sent to Honolulu, UH has nothing to lose and Huskers have a lot of pressure to make the FinalFour, prime scenario for an upset. And wouldn't the UH loyals go to town with that. Regardless, UH is going to get a very tough opponent in Stanford/UCLA/USC/PSU or Nebr. So Nebr is as good a draw as any of those. If I were a UH fan I'd want UNL to be the top seed there also, all the possible glory with nothing to lose.
