Looks like Hawaii's first opponent will be Fresno St who knocked off LA Tech in 4 (believe it or not).

Can't say it was a huge surprise. La Tech and Fresno State went at it last week with Fresno State winning in 5 at La Tech. This match was all about adjustments to each other after their match last week. Generally this bodes well for Hawaii as Fresno State worked hard to win and will be a bit drained for another match this evening.

I went to the WAC website for tournament information and noticed that they made a mistake in the pairings listed in their 11/20/06 News Release.
Those pairings show semifinal matchups with the winners of Matches 2 and 3 playing each other and the winners of Matches 4 and 5 also playing. As shown, this would create a theoretical matchup between Hawaii and New Mexico State in the semifinals.
After noting this in the News Release, I looked at the PDF bracket and that does show the correct matchups.

NMSU takes Boise St in 4. Was NMSU playing badly? When Hawaii played Boise I thought Hawaii was just playing bad. Maybe Boise is much improved or it could have been a combination of both

I think Boise was much improved. They got us out of system a few times and took advantage of it. Thankfully, we had our heads together and were able to pull it back.
Let me add that the service error fairy followed us to Reno. We had 8. Alice had 5 on her own.

Wow. Boise outblocked NMSU 14-13. Pretty weird... NMSU was down by 8 in the third game (12-20) and Boise then had game point at 29-28 but managed to lose 29-31. This NMSU team is pretty tough.
Hopefully, Hawaii and NMSU will meet in the finals. If they do, I think it will be a pretty intense match.

We'll take on Idaho tomorrow afternoon. Nevada and San Jose are playing now. I'm not really sure who I want to win....
(Wonder if it's in bad taste to bring the computer to the table to watch the game while we eat dinner?)

Yep. NMSU vs Idaho at 5pm Pacific and Nevada/San Jose St vs. Hawaii/Fresno at 7:30pm Pacific.
I *hate* having this tourny during Thanksgiving.

That is just awful, for the players, for the fans. What was the WAC thinking?

Even playing on Thanksgiving? I know they usually play the Thanksgiving weekend, didn't realize they played on turkey day.
