The guy who looks like Shrek? You're right he can play. I was suprised to see he was only a freshman. AND it looks like Loyola is only losing Shawn Shroeder. Loyola looks to be fairly strong in the future.
Lewis is losing FAbby, James, Matt M. and Ryan.
Which Lewis basketball coach is now a Rambler??? hmmmm

Not that I agree with the criteria, but given that criteria I think you probably have to give the nod to Batista. Not sure any of the other freshman have been putting up the kind of numbers he has on a regular basis.
All the guys mentioned have done great jobs as freshmen. How many will receive All-American consideration?

well not to be a kill joy, but with Batista being under investigation, I'd rather not see that happen. I mean, it could all come back clean, but the sport has been bruised enough and I still do not see how the NCAA says that HIllman is ok. He is an amazing player and for a freshman, that would draw attention to why is he soooo amazing.
I'm trying to be positive, but since Lewis pulled their questionable players I hate it that it appears (noticed I used appears) that BYU is not willing to do the same. If I read correctly it was NCAA who pulled Batista not BYU. Please if I'm wrong, someone (kindly please) correct me.
Now that I've said that, you are right Batista is amazing, watching them play against Lewis was like....dang.....this guy is good. So if he wasn't being questioned...I'd agree with Batista.
Sorry about the poor attitude, but I'm just a little upset still. I guess I'm just mad that if all this stuff comes back ok, then Lewis wasted their reigning championship year on a "maybe". Do I honestly think it will all come back ok....hmmmm. BUT I still do not see where Lewis has not done anything that BYU is doing right now. Difference...Lewis benched their players and BYU is #1. What if the Lewis hadn't benched their players? Would BYU be #1. What if BYU benched their players? Would they be #1? Doubt it.
That is back to the old....winning at what cost?

I predict FOY--Klosterman with 325 kills so far this season. Does any other freshman have even close to that? Even if UCLA doesn't win the Nat'l Championship, he has made a great impact this year. But...I'm hoping that UCLA does win! Go Bruins!

Jake Wiens (UCSB) has 326 kills, 19 sets, 28 aces, 92 digs, 56 blocks and 384.5 points. This true freshman has had a significant impact on the improvement of a struggling team in all areas of the game. Dan Rhodes is another freshman with good numbers. 277 kills,18 sets, 72 digs, 38 blocks and 303.5 points. Klosterman has 325 kills, 5 sets, 17 aces, 101 digs, 48 blocks and 368 points.

My reading of the rule is that redshirts are not eligible. I got this from the AVCA website. This is regarding "Newcomer of the Year" The AVCA recognizes the top player in his first year of NCAA competition. The nominee can be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior but must in his first year of competition for an NCAA program. Student-athletes following a redshirt year and transfers from a two-year or NAIA institution are eligible for the award. Only one player from each institution can be nominated.
