Who's going to win this?
Shane Davis (Loyola) would get my vote!

Who ever goes to the final four will get it.

That's not necessarily true. Gordon Mayforth (sp?) got it in 2002 and Ball State went to the final four that year.

Its probably voted upon before the final four. Winner is announced at the conference banquet, which takes place during the conference semi's and finals.

Shane Davis was not the same coach on the court tonight that he was at the beginning of the season. This guy has grown so much, you can see it on the court. He is more involved, up more, talking more, after seeing how well Loyola played tonight (which they were like blocking machines the frist few games) Shane Davis was very impressive.

Shane is a good candidate...They have not been swept in conference play this year and lost some real close matches.
Pete Hanson is another good candidate...I have seen them play and there is not a single player on that team that impresses me. But here they are in the final week with a chance to win the conference.

Hey
This is an easy one...
DAVE DEUSER!!!!
Without him cheating his way to a National Title and then finally getting caught with his hands in the cookie jar, NOBODY would have a prayer of winning the MIVA's!!!! ;D
I was very hard on Shane early, but he has more than earned my respect. The guys are playing hard for him and they are practicing and playing like they did when Mayforth was there. Here are a couple other interesting notes when you compare players.
OH's-Soler and Dayton vs. Green and Kozlarek. Soler has the biggest rep of the group, but the Loyola duo has been decent all year. Their passing keeps Loyola in system and Koz is a very good all around player. On paper you'd think Lewis has the edge because of Soler, but frankly Loyola and Shane is getting more out of their OH's than Lewis and Dave.
Middles- Escalante and Pochopien vs. Schroeder and Grunst. While Schroeder is easily the best of the group, Escalante isn't that bad himself. While the slight edge goes to Loyola there, the huge edge goes to the other middle for Loyola. Grunst didn't even play last night, but his backup Kloos outplayed Pope. Again if Dave was such a great coach, wouldn't Pope be a better player right now.
Opp- Barretto vs. Alesch. Barretto is lost without JR. He has a very small window as a hitter and JR always hit it. Sisk...well I leave that for next. Alesch has had a better year, but Barretto should be a better player...He is older than dirt after all.
Setter- Sisk vs. Guntli. Here's where Shane has absolutely destroyed Dave. Everyone always gets Sisk's back by saying "Well it's his 1st year setting, he was a hitter in HS...yada yada yada." Uh...Guntli was ALSO a hitter until his Sr. year in HS. I saw him set last year and to be honest he wasn't anything special. I couldn't believe how far he has come this year. Basically there is NOBODY who would take Sisk over Guntli...and Guntli is only going to get better over the next 3 years.
So the defending National Champ Coach is being outworked by a Rookie coach who just got done playing a year ago...WOW!!!!!!

dang....I thought this thread was who should be voted MIVA coach of the year.
I agree with your comparisons on most parts and I'll just leave it at that...

How about everyone lay of Lewis for awhile. You can only kick someone in the N**Z while their down for so long. Their numb right now, Lewis can't feel them so lets start talking about something other than that topic.
Here's a thought : Who will struggle the most next year because of graduation.

This was supposed to be a "positive" thread about who we thought might get the COY award, not a personal attack against Lewis or anyone else.
Thanks Smooth for trying to correct us!
p.s. ;D I'm not sure however, that your question gets us off the "kick Lewis when their down" mode! ;D

actually, we lose fabby, ryan and james. Enrique is doing well and he is encouraging. I'm anxious to see what Konrad can do on the court. Jared is getting the hang of it. Our biggest problem is the setting. I mean, I hate to dump on Brandon and maybe next year under different curcumstances he may be able to get the job done better, but losing Ryan St with all the awesome passing, Brandon's job is going to be that much harder.
Can we stretch JJ another foot or two. He was a very good setter. I bet Sisk would be a good OH.
