Two of the nation's top men's volleyball players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend UCLA, the athletic department announced Friday.
Outside hitter Steve Klosterman and setter Julio "Gaby" Acevedo are both rated the No.1 player at their positions.
"At the Junior Olympics, they were the best players out there," said Head Coach Al Scates, who enters his 41st year as the Bruins coach. "This ensures that UCLA will be a championship contender for the next several years. Both are outstanding players."
Klosterman, who is 6-7, earned MVP honors at the Junior Olympics. He earned All-CIF honors at Marina HS in Huntington Beach, and started for the USA Junior National Team at the 2001 NORCECA Championships in Canada.
The 6-2 Acevedo was named "Best Setter" at the 2002 NORCECA Championships in the Dominican Republic. A three-time Junior National All-American, he also earned Rookie of the Year honors at the 2001 Puerto Rican Championships. He will join four other players from Puerto Rico who are on the UCLA roster.
