ok so now that Nebraska has won the championship, lets speculate about next year... who do you think will be the top 5 teams to beat next year?
1. Nebraska- Only definite loss is Busboom, which will hurt the defense, but the offense will be absolutley stacked with Holloway setting Pavan, Larson, and Houghtelling.
2. Stanford- Loses Richards, but gains Klineman... brings in freshman libero.
3. Penn State- Very good team, but young this year. Look for them to make some noise next year
4. Washington- Only crucial loss is Courtney Thompson and returns 3 other All Americans... look for them to come back next year stronger on the road and for the new setter to fit in nicely. Jim isn't called one of the best volleyball coaches ever for nothing.
5. Texas- Like Penn State, very young this year, but has some amazing talent returning and coming in... a good final 4 bet.

Florida will be better. The loss of Thompson will be huge, bigger than people think. If Nebraska, Stanford, PSU and Texas make it to the FF next year, the athletes on the court will be just plain sick.

1. Stanford 2. Nebraska 3. Texas 4. Penn State 5. Don't matter. These four will be very tough to beat (of course, with the exception of injury, player transfer, catastrophies, etc.)

As far as pre-season polling goes Nebraska will probably open up at number 1. I mean for crying out loud they had no problem putting them there this year after the loss of 3 AA and starting a redshirst freshman at the setter's position
Stanford a solid number 2.
3. Penn St.
4. Texas
5. USC

She won't be there next year.

I do think Florida will be very good next year, if 2 things happen. They stay healthy, that was a problem all season and Kisya either becomes a great outside or she moves back to the middle. This team will be very deep at all positions, something that hasn't been the case the last few years.

1. Nebraska, defending champs, losing Busboom hurts a lot, but they have 2 players of the year, 3 first team all americans and 5 all americans in all...hard to top that.
2. Stanford, I think they will win it all next season. Return 3 all-americans, plus they get in the next great one. With Klineman, Barboza, Kehoe and Akinradewo, I think we may have a chance to see 4 first team all americans all playing together.
3. Texas, lose Todd, bring back Magee and get in recruits #2 and 3. So deep again next season, I say throw Doris and Magee in the middle, put Engle and Moriarty on the RS, Hooker and super frosh outside and Jennings libero. If they run a 6-2(which I think could work well...even if it means AA setter only plays backrow), they could add Christian into the mix.
4. Penn State, lose Salyer(and my money says Price too...just a prediction), but still have Glass, Yanz, Hodge, Walbridge, Fawcett and Harmotto. Right there you have 4 players who have earned AA honors at one point in their career...they'll be top 4 again.
5. Wisconsin, now I don't really think they'll be a top 5 team, but I gotta throw them in there b/c I'm a Badger fan. I still think they'll have a very solid team though. Reinke and Jeffers in the middle, Dolgner and Wack on the OH, Wack at libero and their AA setter Simpson. I have no clue who I'd really put at #5, after the top 4 I see a big drop.

I really couldn't think of anyone else that jumped out at me, plus as one poster already noted...I really don't think it matters as the NC will probably come from one of the top 4 teams I listed.

I do think that Courtney is a crucial loss... but not a non final four appearance loss. Freshman setters have been able to come in, and on the shoulders of vetran players, win national championships (Kehoe for Stanford and Holloway for Nebraska). Washington will have a Senior 3-time All American/Pac-10 POY/2005 FF MVP Outside Hitter in Christal Morrison, a Senior 2-time All American Middle Blocker in Aleesha Deesing, a Senior who has proven to carry this team to a win in Stevie Mussie, a Junior All American Middle Blocker in Jessica Swarbrick, a Junior who has one of the best arms in volleyball in Jill Collymore, and a sophomore who came dreadfully close to beating the UW single season digs list in Tamari Miyashiro. The setter may be inexperienced, but everyone else isn't. They also have Jim Mclaughlin whom many deam as the best volleyball coach in the country.

Amber will likely have shoulder surgery, the other 2 just need time off to heal, hopefully no more surgeries for Kari(I wish they would've redshirted her). I hope they will all be 100% for next year, but you never know. I'm not sure Amber will ever be fully healthy in her career.
