since the nubraska cornchokers won it is
necessary to ask questions and put labels
on the losing team's performance especially
on the star player(s)'s performance
since choking is what the nubraskans do best
we already know the perfect examples of it
let's just focus on what makes ppl choke and
differentiate it from the act of being tentative
then we can ask if stanford choked were being
tentative or did they beat themselves(remember
this is not about the cornchokers it's all about
the stanford team and the pac10 so w/e
stanford did and the pac10 did resulted in a loss
choking occurs when the mind and body aren't
properly trained to work well together under
pressure situations when our brain is in the proverbial
'fight or flight' state(previously only associated w/xtreme
pressure situations)
since athletes (for the most part) already have proper
physical training their mental training is what will separate
the elites from the good athletes
how an athlete deals with pressure is what makes them
winners or chokers
to succumb to pressure by hitting into the net hitting out
on a 1on1 or a no1 up situation when attacking or serving
are examples of choking(it should be noted that the margin
or error in hitting into the net or hitting out should be no
more than 2-3" to be considered an acceptable non-choking
act since technically no action is always the same unless it's
a machine or an alien if ye believe in aliens haha)
serve receives and setting also provide good examples of choking
but we'll limit it to just hitting to keep things short(blocking is not
a good example because the offense has more control)
being tentative should never be construed as choking
there's nothing wrong with being tentative for the most part since
most situations don't require any more than that to play it safe
and in pressure situations playing it safe is will almost always make
athletes overcome that pressure
it is why some good jump servers were instructed by the
coaching staff to play it safe and keep it in w/more precise
and accurate serves than bomb away(some were even forced
to go back to the standing float serves)
being tentative in certain situations during the match is
1 reason why washington won the title last yr
now that that's out of the way did stanford choke or baboza
k rich and/or foluke choked
did the pac10 choke in the ff
based on what i saw and on the definition of choking and
being tentative none of the above choked
barboza did play tentatively but when the pass was on she
often terminated and a couple or 3 of those were late in
the games when it counted most
she should've hit more aggressively earlier in the games to
get into a better hitting rhythm and increase that adrenaline
flow to the system to get her 'fired up'
if she choked she would've made errors the way larson and
pavan did against uw last yr
none of her errors occured under pressure late in the games
and when she did those were errors w/in an acceptable
margin of error (no wallball hits or net dumping when the
score was 27 or above)
barboza and the other stanford studs didn't choke so stanford
didn't choke @all
stanford beat themselves for not passing better and not
blocking better(they should've blocked the lft side better and
not let larson hit the percentage she did)
idk what the stanford players were thinking when they knew
that 90% of the sets were going outside to the lft and rt &
the middles still didn't camp out towards that side
not limiting the lft side hitters is what made stanford lose
it's not what nubraska did it's what stanford didn't do that
gave the title to the cornchokers
remember ppl nubraska choked all those endgame pts xcept
in the 2nd game
standford put themselves behind the '8ball' by not passing
better and blocking the lft side and when the referee's calls
factored in it was over
the calls by the refs wouldn't have mattered if stanford
didn't put themselves in situations where it would matter
crap calls are part of the game and it becomes a bigger part
only if ye allow it to matter
this is what stanford and ucla did and they lost
i will not give credit to any teams that don't deserve it
stanford simply beat themselves and gave that title away
now it mite take them 2yrs to win another but hopefully
klineman can hang w/the stanford xpectations and help them
win it nxt yr b4 kehoe leaves
now i mite not have a chance to ask k rich out on a date
damn i should've asked her last yr but my gf happened to
be with me when i walked up to her and bryn for a little chat
does ne1 know if she'll play beach and hopefully the avp
events here in socal will remain if she decides to play so i'll
still have that chance afterall muaaahahahahaaaa
if not i could always ask gysin out again but if i do that'd be
like stalking or something hahaha it's rock n roll tho
goodtimes ppl
a toast to the nubraska cornchokers for receiving the
ncaa championship title from stanford
party @my place and every1's invited if ye get maggie
griffin and rachel schwartz to go
ye know where to find me
happy xmas and a rock n roll new yr
