Anyone know anything about Norwegian volleyball? A good friend is the assistant coach for the Junior Norwegian National Team and I was wondering what the heck he was doing there? Are they any good?

Norway has been pretty good at women's beach if I recall. I think the federation is putting most of their resourses toward that end (easier to find 2 good players than 7).
I've never been there, but my stereotype makes me think the population might be heavy on 6' tall blondes! It seems like there might be potential to field good teams, but it hasn't happened lately. I don't see why they couldn't be as good as Azerbaijan if they were motivated to that end.

We got an inquiry for a male undergrad student coming to Cal for fall. I won't know for a bit if he is actually appearing. Obviously playing on a club team over there. Sounds decent enough. Or maybe he is coming for a year of grad school. I have to go look. Been several months...we gave him what info we have and said we would check back when transfer students are admitted to see how things are going.
We got an grad from Denmark about 8 years ago. One year. Stud player.
Cal has two grads who have played 5 years of pro ball in Sweden. One is back for Alumni Match this weekend. We'll see ...but we are expecting some good play.
Norway has indeed has some very good beach FIVB men's and women's teams competing...work ethic during the summer, and indoors somehow during the winter methinks...or they go elsewhere during the winter?

I know that the way they evaluate themselves is by the number of victories they have against Holland every year. Last time I checked it was like humm zero

Norway's JNT played in Euro Qualification group in Ankara back in May. They were by far the most popular team in the tournament but for their looks rather than their game They finished bottom of the group....

Inquiry to Cal men's team possible Norwegian player updated overnite. This player is hoping to come for his Masters in Engineering ...obviously no lack of brain power... Norway has 3 levels of club play...#1 is top level, with a number of teams at each of the 3 levels. Above the 3 levels I just found out, is a totally other Elite level who compete in and out of the country. Plenty of vball in Norway for sure. website for a bunch of Norway vball www.ntnui.no/volleyballg/all in Norwegian of course, but some interesting items one can figure out. The beach links lower right corner take you to some very interesting stuff. link to the Norwegian women vb foto who won a match this past summer on the FIVB, over USA it says, so likely over Misty and Kerri. Website says Paris tour stop. www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=124631And there is a stunning foto of Xmas smorgasboard for vb party....as my roots are in Scandinavia, I have sent it all around to my family....

Bulgaria FIVB tour stop??? www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=124631So, I'm guessing it wasn't Misty and Kerri. More likely some team like McPeak/Branagh. The Bulgarians were probably the Yanchulova sisters Lina and Peta who played college ball at Idaho and San Diego, and who have several top 10 beach finishes.

It was in Paris. The Norwegians beat Mason/Boss. 4th round maybe.
The FIVB site does note that the Norwegian team finished the season as the top European women's team on the Swatch circuit. They finished 7th. The teams ranked higher were China, Brasil(several teams) and USA/Kerry and Misty.
These Norwegian ladies do know what they are doing apparently to finish as well as they do.
