I am a bit surprised to see no PSU or Washington players. Anyone have an idea why? Odd to me that some schools have most of their starters trying out..... while other schools have none. Seems to me that there must be some pressure from their coach to stay away. If true, I find that incredibly sad. Don't know about PSU, but for UW the school calender is such that they cannot do school and the national team at the same time. School does not let out until the second week of June and competitions are well underway by that time. Courtney and Candace are at Colorado Springs with the team, but any current players have to choose school over the national team. I think some have tried out in the past just to see what that process is like, but ...

Is Angie McGinnis already on the team? I didn't see her name.

Given the # of NT players overseas, and the current crop of Practice Players already in Colo Springs, this large group will obviously be winnowed with those players in mind. It would seem there would be a large # of staff/coaches helping with these evaluations. Anyone know who they are? 4-6 staff aren't obviously enough...
There may even be consideration of another call back to winnow the group even further...in May? when the Pro players would be back...
The upcoming calendar for the next 3-4 months for seeing/evaluating/competing/dropping will be most interesting.

While I'm sure they won't overlook someone who has a great showing, I'm sure the coaches already have people who they are considering for future competitions and are just seeing if any of the rest of the group can be a pleasant surprise.

I noticed there's NOT alot of Rightside hitters on that list, and that is one position they need to improve on. The rightside is so weak, I can't believe none of the coaches is focusing on that.

Are you drinking again? Metcalf is one of our most consistent players and a solid rightside. The National team problems are on the leftside.

Not as good as Walsh or Sarah Noriega. But then you wouldn't know that. The U.S. has so many gifted outside hitters....the ones they go with are disappointing.

I am a little surprised that no one mentioned that Aneli Otineru was on the tryout list. Is she still transferring to UH? Are there any other non-Division 1 athletes trying out? Kahea Silva

Who could blame players like Walsh, Noriega, and Tom for not being with national team. But the national team could really use their services.

How could you possibly cite the problems w/ the rightside over the leftside? Metcalf is doing a decent job. She's more effective than Noriega. Walsh is a different story because she can block, pass, set, and do it all. The positions that the US needs to rectify are firstly leftside hitters, and secondly libero. After that I'd say we could improve our rightside, then setting, then middle hitting in that order.

I agree with Metcalf being a decent RS. Yes, I know our leftsides are nothing to brag about, and liberos, well that's a different story without Stacy Sykora. I disagree with you about Noriega, being ineffective because she was chosen over Metcalf for the 2000 Olympic Team with Walsh. But our middles and setting have been very consistent without a doubt.

I disagree with you about Noriega, being ineffective because she was chosen over Metcalf for the 2000 Olympic Team with Walsh. And the coach got canned partially because of that decision too.
