Richkern.com has a new Purdue recruit (listed 3/5/2007.)
Rachel Davis S 6-0 Plainwell Plainwell, MI MI Netz Dead Frog
From what I can google on her, she looks like a terrific setter. 42 assists her last game.
Is there a history behind the name of her club team???
This is the 2nd 2009 'er for Purdue, along with Katie Griffin.

Dead Frog used to be the name of the top club in Kalamazoo, where Magelssen coached. I think it was the name of a clothing line.

Thanks for the info! Ah, but there surely has to be a story behind the name!!
It is just too bizarre!
I don't know much about Michigan volleyball except we have a highly regarded 2007 recruit from Michigan ... Kristen Arthurs is the Gatorade 2006-07 Michigan Girls Volleyball Player of the Year... so I'm fishin'. Google only finds me enough to be more curious!
Like - Is Rachel's coach "Carolann Davis" her Mom ?
Being a coach's kid always has lots of extra connotations.

I think the Dead Frog name comes from the idea that a blocker should have their limbs fully extended, kind of resembling a frog that has been run over.

OK, club name aside, can anyone comment on Davis as a setter?

She has a nice resume'
She was on the 2006 Girls' 16 Club All Tournament Team for USA volleyball. She lost in the final of the USA Volleyball Michigan Junior Open on sand. She made the Lakeshore High Performance 2006 team. She had 42 assists vs. Otsego and the Trojan's won their conference.

I doubt that there are any two states in which the college recruiting landscape has changed more dramatically over the past five or so years than Michigan and Indiana, what with the coaching changes at almost every major school and the dramatic changes in recruiting philosophies that have resulted. Shondell's forays into Michigan are just the latest interesting development. The next few years are likely to see even more changes, as the new coaches at Ball State and Indiana get to work and with the Supreme Court about to finally resolve Michigan's high school volleyball season lawsuit.

Looking at Purdues roster and their incoming recruits this will make the 3rd setter committent in 3 years. Has the current setter Gray left or planning to leave? It seems strange that they will have 3 scholarship setters on the roster at the same time and by reading the other threads they were also recruiting the Tennessee transfer setter as well. Anyone with information as to why Purdue would recruit back-to-back-to-back setters?

That's correct which leaves 3 setters on the roster and on the scholarship which is what fanof was saying if I read correctly. Is this setter so good they cannot pass her up?

The original question asked why it was back-to-back-to-back. It's not. There is a skipped year. As it is setup now, Davis would be setting for at least two full years. With a 6-2 or with a redshirt, she could be setting for three years.

I would think it is better balanced to have a new setter recruited every 2 years, so this looks like Purdue recruiting is getting on track to do that. Having a freshman setter usually means the team has to go through growing pains with the setter. Personally, I like the 6-2, and with 6'+ setters, you would potentially have blockers /hitters. The other reason I like it - if you have a setter get hurt (And we have! Linda Menconi, Jen Bova, and even for a few games - Renata Dargan) then you have someone seasoned and used to playing. btw - "Chelsea Noble has committed to Ohio State. She was recruited as a DS/Libero" which is probably what she would have been recruited for at Purdue.
