Hello Folks Could someone help a parent out here I have made my daughter's top five list public to her top five and to the other prospective programs that request this information. I dont want anyone wasting their time if it not a possibility. Could someone tell me what harm there could be from making this public knowledge JLo

If you post it here or spread it around much it will 'get' here...and you and your daughter's considerations will be bandied around by everyone likely a lot...and the schools on her list will be evaluated or speculated about forever in a day...which many already are. Assumptions will be made, wild guesses bandied around as fact, the first thing anyone will ask you for the next weeks until a choice is made...."have you made up your mind yet?". What a nuisance imo.
No likely harm...however....it might seem more preferable to you and your dtr to do your considering with more relative privacy...AND think about something else now and then.
Plenty of time to have her choice evaluated positively or negatively after she makes it.

Read your personal messages. Oh, BearClause... you didn't either break a booster law, or even worse, cite NCAA code to jlo, did you?

just make sure you are in the Top 5 of the Top 5 schools, otherwise your backup plan (6-10) might desert you.
It is always best to be honest, but keep your cards close to the vest until you have something solid on the table from the schools of your choice.

Isn't this a bit after the fact--you said you have already made this public to your daughter's top 5? Why ask now? Methinks someone needs to take sit back and take a humble pill.

I think that you should let us at Volley Talk make her decision from those 5 for you guys. Kind of like on American Idol. We'll get some information (singing) and critique (some of us as judges). Then, the Volley Talk fanbase jumps in and votes for your choice.
How cool would that be?!

Yep, or maybe '26... How do you teach a fetus to play volleyball? Did you attempt such a thing, jlo?

What if, in the next year, she changes her mind?

Your best bet is to let Karch be the father -- so you blew that one.
Mrs. (R) is always bringing this up for some reason...

If I came across as being arrogant my apologies to the list and its readers. All of us on this list are volleyball enthusiasts and love to find out information about programs and their recruits. I was just curious on what the negatives of revealing an athletes top five choices. If there is a standing offer from these schools why not make this public? If the athletes list changes the schools are informed regardless. I just dont see why there is all this mystery? What advantage is there if you have offers from your top 5 to keeping this quiet?

As a parent whose daughter recently finished the recruiting process, I will say that she/we were careful not to give out the top schools list until she had notified all other schools that they were no longer in the running. But if the athlete's list is fluctuating, what is the point of releasing her top five? Everyone concerned (from schools that are dropped/added from the list on down to any vb fan following the recruiting process) is going to feel jerked around. What do you have to lose? The player and her family stand to lose the respect of the above mentioned groups. If you visit this board regularly, you know that the posters on this board can be merciless in their observations. Why subject your teenager to more stress and pressure than they are already feeling? I suggest that you take a look at the reasons you have for wanting to "share" information prematurely..

3talltreesI Excellent point. I am very proud of my daughter and enjoy discussing it with others. Your reply also caused me to consider how I would handle negative discussions. I remember reading past posts regarding Sarah Pavans faults both on and off the court and knowing her parents this bothered me. Regarding my daughter fortunately she doesnt spend much time on the internet and isnt aware of this site! Thanks again for the insight. As I stated when I first joined the list my wife and I are new to this process and being located in Canada are very much out of the loop when it comes to recruiting.
