Three MAC titles in a row. Bumped off Ohio state in the NCAA's two years ago, & now have signed two recruits listed in the fab 50. Just squeezed into the top twenty five. Seems to be quietly building a solid program. Early games vs Stanford and Minnesota will give a glimpse at how far they've come. I noticed someone on here hails from athens. wondering if you've been to see em' and how much of a factor they really are.

I gotta tell ya, I kinda like their mix of colors -- green and silver (or is it grey?). Sorta reminds me of the Green Lantern.

They lost graduate some pretty important cogs, esp. from a heart standpoint.

They lost quite a bit to graduation the year before too and some thought they would not be as good last year but they came through by developing the talent they had. That is one sign of a good coach. Now that they are able to recruit a bit stronger, that may allow them to climb even higher in the rankings. Goeff is bring them along very nicely.

Actually in 2004 Ohio had a strong team (assistant coach was former Buckeye Ann Botica) that had every hope/intention of knocking off the Buckeyes in the tournament. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the Buckeyes had a player at the time named Stacey Gordon who led the Bucks to a 3-0 win, with 21 kills (hitting .349) and 12 digs.. It was the next year after Stacey left that the Bobcats could finally get past the Buckeyes.

Yeah, but they weren't near as good as they were the year before, so those who "thought they would not be as good last year " were absolutely right. Yes, they still won the MAC, but then lost in the first round to a team they shouldn't have. That's not quite living up to the standard of the Sweet 16 from the year before.

Their blocking wasn't too strong last year, which didn't help them against good teams. Still, they played Washington pretty close and took Wisconsin to five in Madison (they were up 2-1 and then ran out of gas), without one of their starting middles later on so they were a pretty solid team. The NCAA loss was surprising; I thought they would win their first round match and then lose to Purdue in a relatively close match. It remains to be seen how they do this year. I think Parra did a good job running their offense, and having a new setter is always some cause for concern. I think they will continue to be good, but I also think it is harder to stay in the top 25 if you are from a mid major conference. Ball State dominated the MAC for a long time, but things didn't go the way they wanted in recent years, as the other thread here discusses.

The have a coach the recruits well, knows how to train the kids and always has them competing against each other. The result being that they learn how to deal with competition within making it much easier to deal with it when facing an oponent. Ohio is to stay for a while. ESTRELLA

They are. I would be very surprised, however, if the Bobcats are not challenged by Ball State. Whatever happens, it'll be good for the MAC. The MAC and the MVC are really coming along.

As a Mac fan, the Mac is a strange one...lots of parity in terms of budget and resources, all fully funded. Contrary to ruffda, Ball state is not the strongest second team, its WMU, Miami and BG. Kentucky was tough draw in the first round and to lose to them in 5 does not mean they were down. Ohio has been in the top 25 or receiving votes for four years straight now, have won the MAC all 4 years and I read they are 75-1 in the MAC. Each year I have thought Ohio would be down given their graduates, each year they have found a way to dominate. The thing I like about them is they schedule HARD, have you seen their schedule this year. Finally, saw their setter Jantsch coming in and she is the real deal, one of the best I have seen in the country. Go Mac!

Ball State's glory days are over. They have been gone for some time now. I don't think you turn the program around with the publicized signing of a 5'6 walk-on, but hey - that's a start! Ohio U, Western Michigan, and Miami of O appear to be the front runners of the MAC. Ohio will remain in a league of their own as long as Carlston is outworking the rest of the league.
