I follow the Big 12 and The Valley so I'm not that famaliar with the MAC. My question for those that are is if Ohio is that dominating in their conference why haven't other teams stepped up? Someone earlier mentioned most schools in the MAC have similar funding. Usually this situation will force other schools to get better.

Other schools ahve treid and the closest last season was Bowling Green. Still not good enough. Bottom line is that Ohio has a coach that knows how to coach, recruit and motivate. Very rare to see a coach in the MAC that can do that every year. ESTRELLA

How many consecutive undefeated conference seasons were there? It took a long time for anyone there to step up at all, and even then, it took UNI's big step back when the big 3 graduated. Ohio hasn't dominated the MAC to the extent that UNI has dominated the Valley, especially in Iradge's last 6 years or so.

I am anxious to see if Dave Boos at Ball State can take his team to the level of OU. It appears that he has the coaching creds to do it. The team that amazes me is Miami U-they have a hotbed of talent in Cincinnati and a great school to recruit to-every bit as good as OU, if not better. And year after year they are in the middle of the pack in the MAC.

lots of good coaches in the MAC I think but Ohio seems to just find a way...in the end I still think how they schedule is one of the keys, they had a wicked non conference last year and this year's is got to be one of the toughest in the nation. they are good beyond the MAC, looking at the past seasons they have beat Ohio State, Tennessee, Missouri, Notre Dame, Alabama, St. Mary's, Sac State twice, Pepperdine, etc. The AVCA also has them listed #23 in the country for attendance.

How has the state of ohio embraced womens volleyball on the HS and club level? One area Nebraska has going for it is the state has gone bonkers over volleyball. a lot of good coaching and talent being developed in state. Just curious if ohio is tapping into that huge population base and developing in state talent.

Last I checked, Ohio is one of the largest states in terms of junior players-over 12,000 registered juniors last year. They are in the top 3 with California and Illinois. So, I would say that club ball is alive and well in Ohio. Team Z seems to rule the club scene, but there are several other strong clubs. OU's top freshman last year, Ellen Herman played club ball for Toledo Volleyball Club. But I think OU recruits from all over, obviously not just Ohio.

Good point about the state of Nebraska which is one reason I think Creighton has been able to build a solid program in the last few years.

Ohio's roster shows 7 ohio players, kansas, california, 3 indiana, wisconsin, minnesota, kentucky...
friend said Ohio dominated the spring tourney in Cincinatti over Northwestern, Dayton, Xavier, Cincy and beat Illinois something like 30-15, 30-20. Ohio's best player apparently out with broken wrist too. Looks like a really good tourney.

Melissa Griffin is the injured player. She hurt her left wrist last season and is recovering from surgery. Towards the end of 2006 she played with a cast.

Ball State's glory days are over. They have been gone for some time now. I don't think you turn the program around with the publicized signing of a 5'6 walk-on, but hey - that's a start! Guess you missed the "less" publicized committment of the McGinnis kid; USAV A2 Junior National Team; turned down Tennessee; sister of 1st Team All American; etc.

mcginnis is actually going to ball state I think...the Jantsch kid giong to Ohio is on a different level than her IMO.
it has got to be tough to win a conference like the MAc 5 years in a row. Any thoughts from those who know the conference in terms of predictions for 2007? How about the incoming recruits for the conference?

be tough to win a conference like the MAc 5 years in a row. Why? Why should it be harder to win 5 years in a row in the MAC than in the Valley, for example. How many years in a row did UNI win the Valley championship in the late 90s, early 00s? 7? 8? Something like that.
