Beau Daniels was not the best setter in MPSF last year. My money is on Tamas. He hasn't graduated has he?

[glow=blue,2,300]Maybe someone should make this a poll, I vote for Kimo Tuyay becuase he has big weapons to set this year and he was the freshmen of the year a couple years ago, he might have a breakout year[/glow]

Tamas, Hansen, Moreno, Tuyay and Nelson should be the top setters.
1. Tamas is an outstanding setter, however, he doesn't have the supporting cast that the other setters have. I think he has a future on the National Team.
2. Hansen a very smart setter with great hands. Again support cast will determine how successful Kevin will be. Very athletic setter. He reshirted his freshman year, so he still has three years at Stanford.
3. Tuyay had the sophmore jinx at times, but was great in the NCAA Final and looked great in the sweep over UCLA. Has a great supporting cast, and has been able to distribute his sets to alot of weapons on the team. Could have a big year. His future is on the Beach.
4. Moreno came late to BYU, team took a while to adjust to his style. Will have a great future at Provo. However, losing Acosta and Wall to graduation will be tough.
5. Nelson is the elder statesman of the setters. A veteran Bruin leader, who is steady player. He needs to step it up for the Bruins to be successful.
6. Newcomers to watch out for. Peters at Long Beach if they don't make him a hitter. Good Athlete not a pure setter. Jensen and Kowalski will battle at UCSB. Dane is more athletic and bigger, but Bart is a leader. Loser might transfer to UCI. I

McGann and Gilmore wont have great years Gilmore backed up Bart "Im 6'0 Starting over a 6'8 guy" Kowalski at LAAC a couple years back
Kowalski beats out Jensen
Tamas is the best MPSF setter

What happens if Dane beats out Bart (or vice versa)? Does one leave? I can't see either of those thouroughbreds sitting on a bench for four years.

Dane will beat out Bart for not only the simple reason that he is a better setter, but for the fact that historically Preston has always leaned toward a bigger setter. For example a couple years back when both Jeff Minc and Britt Galang were fighting for the setting spot, Minc got more time during the begining of the year, but eventually gave it up to Britt who was taller, and more physical even if jeff was a better setter at the time. Wait and watch

If that scenario played out, I would wonder if Bart (or Dane), would transfer to UCI. Bart won the starting setter position on the USA Junior National Team, with John Speraw being the coach...JS is now the head coach at UCI. Also, Dane's brother Jarret plays at UCI. I'm currious to see what happens.

I am not sure who will be the top setter this season, but in response to your Pepperdine question, look for James Ka to start.

Chris Tamas, no doubt about it, although he doesn't have the hitters the others do to make him look better than he is.
I don't know why people think Tuyay is so great. His location on the outside is awful, he just had some of the best hitters in the country making him look good.
Nelson's pretty good, but I can't forget that dump.

The best setter in the country/MPSF is Chris Tamaz. He is legit, and if Taliaferro continues to waste his talent on the beach and not head back indoors, look for Tamaz to start for USA in 2008.
As for the UCSB setting dillema, don't forget about Jared Godinez. He is a redshirt freshman with a nice set of hands and represented the USA at the Junior World Beach Championships this past summer in Italy.
By the way, whoever loses the starting position will stay in Isla Vista because how could you ever leave the scent of cheap Natural Light and Halloween fun and go live in Orange, a.k.a. L.A. South?

Just thought I would clear something up...the name is actually Curt Tamaz. People have been calling him Chris Tamaz for a while now, but his real name is actually Curt.
Thanks.

First off, the correct abbreviation is you're, not your. Most of us learned this in 3rd grade.
Second, yes it is curt. Everyone always gets him and chris toppel confused.
