Those are 2007 recruits. 2008 has 3 in the top 50 recruits and 1 in the top 80. Michigan is building a great team. All I have heard is Lexi is the best and she is helping to bring in the best. Megan Bower will be a great asset as this team grows. Big ten is tough but it's nice to see that the big ten is getting some really great recruits in .

Michigan has 4 recruits for 2008 so far, and one for 2009. For example, here is a list of the 2008's in the Big Ten: www.richkern.com/vb/recruits/conf.asp?Div=DI&VBYear=2008&conf=Big+Ten but it is a pay site. richkern . com does a wonderful job keeping track of all the recruits, and you can get a trial membership and join, and see if you like it, before you pay. prepVolleyball . com has a message board that is free, and you can do a search and find out more on the Michigan players, there.

How's she compare to Spicer, assuming Nellie is also a setter you've reffed? Zimmerman is taller, longer limbs, probably better jumper and more raw athleticism. But I don't think she's as consistent or accurate as Spicer. Plus Spicer has those intangibles, such as a tremendous competitive will to win, a la Kehoe.

Michigan's 2008 group is extremely talented. They have 4 commitments. A lefty, right side, an outside hitter that I believe has been recruited to be a libero, and 2 middles that will provide them with size(along with Bruck in 07)--something that they have traditionally lacked under the current husband/wife coaching tandem. I think that they have a new recruiting coordinator as I have not seen the Rosens on the road much at all but have seen the new assistant everywhere.
The one thing that they really need is a left side since they will lose Brudsinski to graduation after this season and they have nothing there unless they move one of the middles to the outside. The freshman from last season will not replace Brudsinski
I think that they will be solid but it will be hard to break into new territory in 2007 with PSU, Minn, UW, Purdue, OSU, and MSU all better. I agree that they pull a surprise every year (Minn/Pur in 06 and Wisc in 05), but they also drop matches they should win more than any team in the conference. I don't think they won a 5 game match last year.
They will lose a lot but the 2008 group looks good especially on the heels of Zimmerman/Bruck.

Based on the eye witnesses weighing in here, it looks quite likely Zimmerman would set from the get-go, pushing Selsky back, creating a bit of a log jam where Hance and Bower were last year. I guess this could possibly explain why one doesn't see setter Mara Martin's name on the Spring roster.
Assuming for the moment that Brudzinski (OH), Miller (MB?) and Karpiak (MB) are penciled in, who replaces Erin Penn on the Right Side this year? Or does Bruck come in middle and somebody moves?
I agree with letsavefun that Megan Bower is a great asset. Quite versatile. Just wonder how everything gets resolved. But I guess that's what August is for.

Martin left pretty much at break.
Didn't see Bower play at their spring tournament, she had turned her ankle two days before then. The offense was left side dominant again, but not as much as during the last season. Middles weren't having a bad time at the tournament, they connected well with Stelsky when the pass was there. Hitting averages were excellent all around. I think the only one cracking the starting lineup is Zimmerman. RS will be the 6'5" kid from Milan. She looked good on the block, a little inconsistent from the offense but she can hang with most of the Big Ten.
Greg Whitis has been going nuts recruiting, he has brought in a lot of talent, of course their best recruiter might be Zimmerman, by virtue of her coming to AA.

Poor Katie Bruzdzinski. Top notch vballer who proabably doesn't get the recognition she deserves, going into her fourth year in the program, and still, nobody can spell her name right (me included in a prior post).

Zimmerman is very good. The other recruits '(07 and '08) are nice players, but none are in the league with Zimmerman and quite honestly, fit the mold of the Michigan recruiting of the past. Keep in mind that Michigan had the 4th best recruiting class in the nation in 2004 and that group will be seniors this year. It will take a special effort by them this year to break a long run of average Big Ten finishes, but it could happen - see below:
1999 Michigan 16-15 .516 7-13 t-8th 2000 Michigan 19-14 .576 8-12 7th 2001 Michigan 13-14 .481 9-11 7th 2002 Michigan 16-15 .516 10-10 t-6th 2003 Michigan 21-12 .636 12-8 5th 2004 Michigan 20-13 .606 9-11 t-6th 2005 Michigan 13-16 .448 7-13 t-7th 2006 Michigan 21-13 .618 8-12 t-7th
