May 1, 2007
Kansas City, Mo. - UMKC head coach Geno Frugoli announced today that Jamie Hagerman has received an athletics scholarship to continue her education and playing career at UMKC next season. Hagerman, a 6-0, outside hitter, joins the Kangaroo program after playing one season in the Big 12 Conference at Iowa State University.
"I've been watching Jamie's career for years now and I always considered her to be an elite athlete," said Frugoli. "She has the ability to dominate a game with her jump and experience and she was considered by many to be one of the top prospects to come out of Iowa just two years ago. She is a quality person and is excellent in the classroom. There is no doubt that Jamie will have an immediate impact on this team.
"I would like to show my appreciation to her and her family for sharing in my excitement and vision for UMKC volleyball and believing in what we are trying to accomplish here. I also appreciate the Iowa State coaching staff for being so supportive of the move."
The New Virginia, Iowa, native will be a sophomore for the Kangaroos next season. In 2006, Hagerman competed in one game for the Cyclones as a true freshman. Playing against UMKC, she posted two kills in Iowa State's 3-0 victory on Sept. 6.
As a prep at Interstate 35 High School in Truro, Iowa, Hagerman was a 2005 Des Moines Register all-state second team selection after averaging 3.7 kills per game during her senior campaign. She was also honored as the Record-Herald and Tribune Warren County Volleyball Player of the Year. The three-year letterwinner also earned all-Pride of Iowa conference honors for her efforts on the court.
Hagerman was also a outstanding track and field athlete for the Roadrunners. She was an Elite all-State selection and a Drake Relays qualifier in 2006.
Off the court, Hagerman was also an academic all-conference selection. Additionally, she was the senior class secretary/treasurer and was the Salutatorian for the class of 2006.
Hagerman is the fourth player to sign with UMKC, as she joins fall signee Christina McCarthy and Simone Smith and Holly Schmidt, who both signed with the Kangaroos in April.
